Byron Youth Service - Duluxed by Bunnings!

Byron Youth Service is delighted that courtesy of Bunnings and Dulux Paints, the Youth Activity Centre at 1 Gilmore Crescent is repainted and ready for action! The chairs and tables that have been donated enable us to offer space at reasonable rates for events including under 18th birthday parties, workshops, programs and conferences. The money we generate from these events will be used to support youth programs including Events Management, Hospitality, Street Cruise, Case Management and individual support. We really need tradespeople, electricians, plumbers & carpenters to help us with a few minor jobs! We would love to hear from you! Call Steffie on 6685 7777. |
All donations over $2 to BYS are tax deductible.
We welcome all donations big and small!

CHANGING LIVES THROUGH YOUTH THEATRE
As Byron Youth Theatre enters its 6th year we welcome 3 new members, Seth Goodman, Jess Lu and Lyam Thackeray-Smith to join the Company in devising and performing what we like to call "Social Action Theatre".
First project is already underway!! Funded by Nortec Employment and Training Services, Altered States will explore the devastating effects of illicit drug use on young people's lives as well as their families and larger community. Company members and Director Lisa Apostolides attended a Youth Mental health First Aid training course during the holidays delivered by the MindRight Institute. Sessions commence on Tuesday 3rd Feb 4-6pm when the devising process will begin.
Also during the holidays BYT members Hayley Acton, Georgia Conechado and Brynn Davis-Hay ran the first "Try A Little BYT" drama workshop for 9-13 year olds. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hour session which was facilitated effectively and confidently by Hayley, Georgia and Brynn. Training for the BYT members by Director Lisa and providing this free workshop was made possible by a Small Change Grant from Byron Council. " BYT has been and still is a fantastic experience for me since I joined 5 years ago. I have learnt so much, helped to create some really powerful pieces of theatre, facilitated workshops, even been paid for acting work for trainee GP's...the Company is like a family, a very creative family, I have seen it change young people's thoughts and behaviours positively on many different issues that we have explored. I love being involved where I can make a difference through something I am so passionate about" shares senior member Hayley Acton.
This year is going to be so exciting with projects funded already to keep us going until November!!
If you are a young person aged 14-24 years, passionate about theatre and drama and want to make a difference in other people's lives then please get in contact asap with Lisa on 0403023693
If you are in a position to support us financially or otherwise to transform our rehearsal floor space please contact Lisa too.
