Well isn't this spring weather a delight!  We hope you are taking the time to enjoy it at our wonderful beaches, rivers, waterfalls & parks!

It's all action here at BYS....our crew of vollies proudly supported the first Boomerang Festival last weekend and enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and cultural delights.  Rhoda Roberts, Peter Noble, the Arakwal mob and the whole team should be very proud!

The YAC has also been a hive of activity!  We recently hosted Parkway Drive's 10th anniversary tour - we know this show was loud and may have upset some of our neighbours - however these guys are passionate young people from our community that have gone onto to become world recognised in their genre of music.  We take our hats off to them for such an amazing achievement and thank them for choosing to play their 10th anniversary tour at the YAC - the home of hardcore in Byron Bay!

On Monday a very different show was put on by Xavier Rudd and his support acts Donovan Frankenreiter and Nahko & Medicine for the People.  And what a truly wonderful atmosphere it was!  The boys from Uncle, Pizza Loca, Chilled Out Soft Serve and the Sea Shepherd crew joined us in our fundraising activities at the event and our event management crew, led by Mel Honey & Freddie Haddad, got their hands dirty doing an awesome job on production and site management for the gig.  Check out the photos below!

Just goes to show how much fun can be had in our drug & alcohol free amphitheatre!

Now that school is back for the final term, our youth workers are busy supporting young people during the stress of exams, and impending transitions to work or further study.  We also have another course for parents of teenagers starting next week - so if you want to gather some further skills to build a better relationship with your teenage kids, then please consider doing this program.

Also please join us again this year for our National Weekend of Action on 8th, 9th & 10th November to reverse youth binge drinking as part of our Cringe the Binge campaign.   A fundraiser is planned for Friday 8th November and a youth gig will also be happening at the YAC.  Stay tuned for more details in local papers and around town....

Thats enough for now.....take care everyone!

Byron Youth Service has launched their 'Healthy Body, Healthy Mind' program to ensure that students attending their various programs have access to healthy meals.

Creating this program not only provides young people with a healthy meal (mostly vegetarian) but also a sense of family as staff, students and volunteers share beautiful food prepared by amazing volunteers!

Santos Organics has come onboard to help sponsor some of the program, which costs $5000 a year to run. Thanks to Santos' donation BYS can ensure that young people attending courses at the Youth Activity Centre are offered a healthy meal.

If you are in a position to help out with donations of food please conatct Steffie on 6685 7777 or stephanie@bys.org.au.

'The world is a sadder place without Ivy and Bella Bowden. The staff at BYS will miss Ivy's style and sense of fun and Bella's gorgeousness and uniqueness.

Ivy was a girl that we admired for her spirit and her feistiness and her determination to overcome obstacles. She always had a smile and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Bella was a divine child, smart, funky and funny. The following words by Corey Scott I think express who Ivy and Bella were perfectly.

'R.I.P. Ivy and Bella .. to a mother who showed the upmost unconditional love in extreme conditions and environment, to a mother who had nothing but gave everything to friends and family, to a mother who fought hell and earth constantly just to be free, and to Bella who gave her mother a reason to live... there was no separating you two right to the end, you're free now."
