Greetings!

It's pretty hectic looking towards the end of the year! There's so much happening!

Our Links Hospitality course starts next week with partners from North Coast Institute of TAFE - and so the YAC will be full of young people learning to cook all the way til the end of the year! Love it!

We've just been to our first Splendour event and are gearing up for our first Boomerang Festival - thanks to both festival organisers for having us there!  If you haven't seen us in motion, BYS offers patrons of these great local events a free breathalyser service and mobile phone charging hub....and we encourage everyone to take it easy and Cringe the Binge...enjoying the music on offer.

The YAC will be hosting major events for some of our favourite locals -  Xavier Rudd and Parkway Drive. How exciting!  Get your tix and come on down to enjoy the amazing atmosphere of our grassy amphitheatre.

Also in the pipeline is a new FIRST for Byron as part of this year's Cringe the Binge National Weekend of Action - but you'll have to wait for the next edition of this newsletter to get the lowdown!

Enjoy this winter sunshine everyone....

From all of us @ BYS

Had enough of a punch-drunk Byron Bay?

Be part of a community solution to a preventable problem.

Come to an information afternoon about alcohol-related violence and its impact on our community.

A culture of binge drinking combined with the oversupply and late night availability of alcohol is damaging our community.

Byron Bay is witnessing ugly, drunken behavior as a regular feature of weekend nights. Our young people are exposed to alcohol-fueled assaults, sexual assault and anti-social incidents at double and treble the average figures for NSW.

Byron Bay ranks third in the State for alcohol-related assaults, behind the Sydney CBD and Kings Cross.

We've reached the stage where some local residents are anxious about being out on weekend nights.  Alcohol-related violence is a threat to the safety, prosperity and reputation of our community.

A local, independent community organization, Last Drinks at 12, is holding an information event to discuss the problem and possible strategies to address alcohol related violence in our community.

Come along and hear from:

MC - Mick O'Regan - Last Drinks at 12
Dr. Michael Gliksman - AMA Councillor
Tony Brown - The Newcastle experience
Detective Senior Constable Tony King - North Coast Police
Dr. Anthony Lynham - Faciomaxilary Surgeon, Royal Brisbane Hospital
