Well another Bluesfest is over - what an awesome lineup - I can't wait to see what Peter Noble and his crew have in store for their 25th anniversary next year! All of us at BYS would like to thank Bluesfest for the opportunity they have provided us over the past four years to raise much needed funds and promote our work on alcohol-harm reduction whilst offering their patrons a very valuable breathalyser service. And at this year's event the first "Boomerang Festival"
was announced for October this year - how fabulous! We are all looking forward to this new cultural celebration coming to Byron Shire.
This week is Youth Week! It's a chance to focus on young people - and acknowledge the energy and colour they add to our lives. Byron Shire Youth Council, Byron Youth House and Byron Youth Service are all working together to provide a rich offering for all to enjoy - see more below and remember that young people matter - they are our future! We'll also be rattling our buckets during youth week at the local markets, and other venues so please come and say hi.
In May and June we will be offering a new program for parents of teenagers. The STEP program is an evidence-based program that aims to build closer relationships between parents and teens. If you are interested in finding out more or pre-registering your interest, please call us on 6685 7777.
And congrats to James Heath and the young musos who organised the Which Way Festival in January this year - building on their experience, they have now received a grant from YAPA (the NSW Youth Peak Body) to develop the YACROCKCAFE
Festival in conjunction with BUDDI - our local community drug action team. Well done guys!
Until next month....
