Greetings! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break over summer, and survived the recent wild weather intact!
It was interesting for all of us at BYS to observe, read about, and listen to, the community outcry over New Year's Eve. It was not surprising that some of the key issues surfaced as alcohol-related chaos descended upon our community once again.
But amidst all the angst and frustration, it's great to see a rising of passion, over these very important (and complex) issues, and we all hope that as the community process develops there will be some good things come out of it.
Last year BYS initiated Cringe the Binge to try and send out the message that binge drinking is uncool and to start a campaign to change the culture of binge drinking amongst young people. If you want to know more about it - LIKE our Cringe the Binge facebook page or jump on our Cringe the Binge website for some more info.
If everyone in our community rallies bebind this new initiative - and existing programs that keep our young people safe like Street Cruise and YACROCKCAFE - then I am sure it will benefit us all in the long run.
Our youth workers are busy organizing our 2013 programs and networking with colleagues at local high schools, TAFE, and job network providers as our young people head back to school or transition into work, TAFE courses, and university. It's always an exciting and busy time of year.
So keep reading and check out what's on at the YAC. If you have time to spare and are interested in volunteering for BYS please call us to book into our next volunteer orientation. Otherwise stay tuned for opportunities to get involved or active in supporting the wonderful young people in our community.
Regards.....
