Greetings!

November is shaping up to be an action-packed month and soon we'll all be ready for a big summer break.

But before that, come and join us in some exciting activities!

Firstly I hope you've already heard about Cringe the Binge and are planning on participating in our National Weekend of Action - please stop and reflect on your alcohol consumption and donate what you would normally drink to Cringe the Binge.  Everyone can help us to support young people to make good choices around alcohol.  Donations over $10 can win a fabulous weekend in Byron so jump on our website and check it out Cringe the Binge.

On Saturday Dr Steve Hambleton - the President of the AMA - will be joining us to officially open our Weekend of Action at 10am at the Byron YAC -  what a treat for Byron Bay!   If you'd like to join in please come along to the YAC at 10am for morning tea. Our National Weekend of Action includes lotsa happenings for the young crew so keep reading!  Thanks in advance to all the wonderful local businesses that are getting behind the weekend - having your support is awesome!

Also coming up this month are some awesome creative treats such as the SNAP Youth Photography Competition on Thursday 22nd at the Byron Community Centre and the INDENT tour by Ninja Safari at the YAC on Friday 23rd November. And don't forget to enrol in our enterprise program - Trail Blazers - if you want to get some support with any creative ideas you have.

And of course the Schoolies Hub will be up and running later in the month to provide assistance and safety support for young visitors enjoying end of year celebrations - volunteers are still needed so pop in and see us for more info.

Hope to see you all enjoying the many wonderful offerings within our community.

From all of us @ BYS

Stitch N Style: Fashion and Design course @ BYS!!
On Wednesday 24th October, a very special group of young people celebrated the completion of their involvement in the Stitch N Style Fashion course @ BYS. To celebrate, the young people were involved in a professional photo shoot, whilst wearing some of their amazing creations!
Over the past 3 months, the sNs Fashion crew have been working closely with Local Designer Byron McGilvray to develop their skills and knowledge around creating fashion drawings/sketches, producing unique patterns and designing and creating a range of garments. The course has been a great success and everyone at BYS is so proud of what these young people have achieved throughout their participation in the course!
The  course was delivered through Links to Learning and Byron Youth Service.

WHAT'S HAPPENING @ MULLUM COTTAGE

'The Mullumbimby Cottage Year 10 girls group put a lot of effort into creating a mosaic with the words 'Pursuit of Happiness' on it. They said that was what coming to the Cottage was essentially about.
No-one knew how to make a mosaic so we researched the process on the web and bought all the resources.
As the mosaic progressed it got very heavy, which we hadn't anticipated, consequently once it was finished we couldn't lift it without breaking it. It spent ages lying on a table on the verandah until a couple of creative male helpers devised a way to support it and attach it to the wall.
It looks great and there were many 'finally' comments when the girls saw it up.'
