NBC News recently featured two UNM Press books in the article "Your Summer 2016 Reading List: 9 Great Books by Latino Authors"----  The Girls in My Town by Angela Morales and The Tombstone Race by José Skinner. The list also mentioned Ana Castillo's Massacre of the Dreamers, republished in 2014 by UNM Press in a 20th Anniversary updated edition.

Several UNM Press titles were recently honored with awards at two design competitions. Four UNM Press titles won 2016 Southwest Book Design and Production Awards (SWBDA) from the New Mexico Book Association (NMBA), and four UNM Press titles won 2016 PubWest Book Design Awards.

The Center for Regional Studies (CRS) at The University of New Mexico provided more than $34,000 to purchase books published by UNM Press for underfunded public and tribal libraries across New Mexico. The CRS purchased copies of 30 titles for distribution to 65 libraries. This project promotes the interests of both the CRS and UNM Press in improving literacy across the state and providing learning opportunities for all New Mexicans.

Narrowed down from nearly 2,000 entries by a panel of librarians and booksellers, along with Foreword Reviews' editorial staff, the winners in 66 categories are considered the year's best books published by independent publishers, university presses, and self-published authors. Foreword Reviews made the announcement in a live presentation at the American Library Association Annual Conference.
