Greetings Valued Patron!
The Dog Days of Summer don't really appear at JPAS. We are cruising along at our usual hectic pace, performing in multiple locations, overseeing construction and planning for next season. In light of this last comment, planning is still up in the air. We cannot in earnest plan for the new theatre till after October 29 and then after the facility undergoes "Sea Trials". We need to learn the operations, the mechanics, where the buttons and switches are and the like. As you might imagine, we will have to fine tune the space to our theatrical vision. For example: We plan to do "Flying" in the space and introduce "Pyrotechnic" elements. These require some retro fitting of the space and will take some time. But when all the bells and whistles are added and the training completed, watch out. I have dreamed of this day for 36 years. I tremble in anticipation of what JPAS will be offering to the community. Stay tuned and be patient - unlike yours truly.
Last week we "Celebrated America" with a fabulous concert by the United States Marine Corps Band. They had four outstanding Conductors and a deeply varied and sophisticated concert program. While we had a couple of Sousa Marches, the rest of the program was far from "fluff". I was quite moved at the thematic pieces such as "Inchon" describing the Marine landings behind the North Korean lines which turned the tide of the war to our favor. The following night we played the deeply moving film documentary Murph|The Protector about the heroic life and service of Navy Seal, Lt. Michael Murphy. It was followed by a discussion by the film's musical soundtrack creator Jeff Widenhofer, the "Casualty Officer" who got the sad duty of informing the family of Lt. Murphy of his death. The audience, choked back tears and offered many interesting questions and comments. The only bummer of the evening was too few folks availed themselves of this special evening. In all we collected over $1000 to donate to our local "Wounded Warrior" organization know as the NOLA Patriots. The final event of this special week was a BBQ show offering of the Complete History of America (Abridged). See review here. You can still catch the show this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Teatro Wego! I salute my staff of Donna, Nick, and Phillip for creating the show and preparing the BBQ.
News on the new theatre and the 37th Season will be coming soon. Thanks for your loyal support and remember to thank a Soldier, Seaman, Airman or Marine. Without them we would either be speaking German or Japanese. God Bless America and as always...
See You at the "new" Theatre soon
Sincerely,
Dennis G. Assaf

600 Years of History in 6000 Seconds...
History Will Never Be The Same!
From Washington to Watergate, yea verily from the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from New World to New World Order - The Complete History of America (abridged) is a ninety minute rollercoaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History, reminding us that it's not the length of your history that matters - it's what you've done with it!
Featuring the talents of:
Phillip A. Benson (Tuna Christmas)
Logan Faust (Murder at Cafe Noir)
and making his JPAS debut,
Drew Cothern

Coming Soon to the Northshore
Presented by our Northshore July Musical Theatre Intensive
Public Performances July 25-27th
Friday & Saturday 7:30pm
Sunday 3:00pm
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
