Mission, Mercy, Ministry & Me!

On May 31st at the Fatima Shrine in Holliston MA the New England Missionary Alliance held their final meeting and cookout of the year.   This end of the year celebration is always a joyous event as we look back at the engagements we were able to be part of in the course of the year and begin to look forward to the next.

This year for the first time we invited the Directors of Religious Education and Youth Ministers of the Archdiocese of Boston to come and join us. We named the day, Mission, Mercy, Ministry and Me shaping out time together into a thanksgiving prayer time for those engaged in direct service to youth as well as celebrating this special Year of Mercy. Participating communities of the Alliance were the Xaverian Missionaries, the Marist Missionary Sisters, the Columban Sisters, the Franciscan Sisters for Africa, and the Delegate for Religious, Sr. Marian Batho attended.

From prayer, to sharing, to an engaging discussion on issues of Youth engagement in our communities, and challenges to stay connected with the wider church, the day was appreciated by both the members of the Missionary Alliance as well as the DREs and Youth Ministers. Look out for the invitations next year at this time.

ACTS of Racine participates in the Blue Mass
On May 20, 2016, Fr. Alex Rodriguez, SX presided over the "Blue Mass" organized by ACTS Racine to honor the first responders and the police officers of Racine County. It was a time of prayer in which the teens committed themselves to pray for the police officers who attended as they pinned a lapel pin of St. Michael the Archangel who is the patron saint of the police officers.

The celebration was a reminder of the call that God has for all of us to care for each other, but especially for the police officers to care and protect those entrusted to them; "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends..." - John 15:12-13. The words of Jesus are somewhat difficult, especially when an officer has to protect and care for someone who will consider him as an enemy; but we are reminded that all the officers are called to lay down their lives for the good of the community. Even if sometimes there are errors, we have to remember that responders and officers count on our prayers and our support.

The celebration was an opportunity to bring together the law enforcement agents and the teens who came to greet them and chat with them. It became an opportunity to build bridges between the diversity of our communities and the officers who are called to protect that diversity.

The World Humanitarian Summit

On 23 - 24 May 2016, world leaders met in Istanbul, Turkey to stand up for our common humanity and take action to prevent and reduce human suffering.  Learn more about this historic event.

Here is  the COMPACT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN HUMANITARIAN ACTION.

The Time Has Come to Start Meeting with Young Catholics

In an era where every Diocese looks to reallocate and rationalise its resources, many of us are now happy to make a plea for youth and student ministry to be one of the foundations upon which we will win souls back for Christ in the 21st century. Jesus, as we know, 'met people where they were', and Pope Francis has been clear about the Church needing to go out from comfort and familiarity and onto the streets if we are going to evangelise in the modern age. The sad fact is that few young people can now be found in churches. They are, however, in schools, colleges and universities. Discover more.
