Mission Education = Job #1
Fifteen Xaverian Missionaries who serve in Italy, Spain, Scotland and the USA gathered at our community house in Madrid for an eight day conference, looking at our work in Mission Education and vocation support: its hopes, challenges and how we can better collaborate together. We placed our work under the theme, "Engaged as we are in the dream do Bishop Conforti, let's find a new way to live out and propose the "first announcement." We find solace in the scripture in Lukes Gospel, Master we have worked all night and caught nothing, but because of your word, we will let out the nets! The first evening was an introduction to each other as well as our work, the proposed schedule and the flow of that work. Although we all now work in these four countries we bring our experiences from Colombia, Congo, Cameroon, Chad, Brazil, Sierra Leone, Mexico and the Philippines to the mix of what we do, who we are and what we propose to young men. It is a true Xaverian experience of interculturality and brotherhood! In the days that followed we used the See, Judge, Act method for our work, looking at the world of youth today, various means to reach these young persons, reviewed what we are doing at the moment and then took all of that, reflecting through the prism of our recent guidelines, in order to propose orientations that can renew our work for the next three to four years.
