As we Americans just celebrated Independence Day - aka the Fourth of July - here's a modest proposal. How about adding an annual INTERdependence Day to remind us of something we seem in danger of forgetting: "We're all in this together!" A society where that simple fact has been forgotten is not a society. Of course, we value independence, national and personal. But we also value collaboration because little that's good has ever been achieved without it. And if we did not take communal responsibility for one another, where would we be? The fact that Christ died for all of humanity forges our solidarity with all, as individuals and nations.

Conforti Update
Life in the Conforti Institute over the past couple of months has been busy! In May, Michael and Paddy continued with the Chaplaincy Formation Programme for teachers in the Archdiocese of St Andrew and Edinburgh. With the end of the Easter Season, John, Jim and Hugh's Prisoner Spirituality Course in some of the local prisons came to an end. They will begin again in Advent and take on a more prominent role in the ministry of the Conforti Institute.
June saw the Servant Leadership programme for in-coming 6th year pupils (16/17 years old) swing into place. We had over 9 local Catholic schools partake before the summer holidays and another 9 after the holidays.
All-in-all a productive and fulfilling time! With the end of the school year the last week in June, John and Paddy were busy with end of term services, presentations and awards. It was also a sad time for St. Oswald's Secondary with Archbishop Tartaglia celebrating their closing mass before they move to new premises.
Jim Clarke, SX celebrated 25 years of priestly ministry on Sunday June 22nd. It was a great moment for all Xaverians in the UK region, which was also celebrated by Jim's family, the wider Xaverian family and friends! Congratulations Jim, and only 25 to go before the Golden Jubilee!
With the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 23rd our Commonwealth Days events came to an end. We had many discussions about diversity and difference that was informed by the many countries that are coming to Glasgow! We are looking forward to many visitors from local and international staying here in Conforti!
Take care and have peaceful and restful break!
~Fr. Patrick (Paddy) Duffy SX

Imagine.... ...a world with dignity, justice, and peace for all. A world with the tools to challenge the spiral of war, poverty and ecological devastation. A world where we apply these tools to our own lives as well as our larger society. Pace e Bene is bringing that world into being one person, one group, one organization at a time. Check out their Campaign for Non-Violence, a new, long-term movement to mainstream active nonviolence --making nonviolence an obvious and natural way of living and of fostering a world that works for all. |

A DAY OF REFLECTION ON MISSION
FOR THOSE YOUTH WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN A PARISH BASED
MISSION / SERVICE TRIP
This is meant as a day that includes prayer time, sharings of the various Mission Trips done by the different parish youths in small groups, large group analysis on mission learnings, screening of the video SEND, RECEIVE, SET FREE on the US Bishops Pastoral on MISSION, sharing by theGYM personnel of wider mission experiences, opportunities and next steps to continue the call to mission through the National Catholic Volunteer Network's publication RESPONSE. All participants will receive a copy.
Who can come?
We are inviting up to five representative youths who have participated in a Mission Trip from your parish in the past two years, be they High school juniors, seniors or college youths. We hope to invite up to 10 parish groups.
Our Aim is twofold:
1. One day reflection/follow up experience that would aid the young people in looking back at the experience they had in mission service, deepen some ideas about mission theology and praxis, witness best practices from their experience and enable us to introduce them to a wider mission praxis....
2. It is an opportunity for them to discover that it was their faith that motivated them to do what they did, AND calls them to do even greater things that only widens their sense of faith.
A day of reflection for youth offered by theGYM at Fatima Shrine in Holliston or in a parish near you!! Scheduling and venue depends of those who show interest. We can do this.

Celebration of Renewal of Vows
On July 2nd the Xaverian Community of Holliston joined the Xaverian Sister community of Worcester to celebrate a special day when many of the sisters either take their first vows, renew their vows or profess final vows on that day. It was an important day of commitment for their founder, Mother Celestine Healy Bottigo and is now part of the tradition of the sisters. Sr. Susana Miranda Jimenez renewed her vows in the course of this celebration. She hopes to make the final and permanent commitment to the Xaverian Sisters of Mary next year. It was a wonderful witness of a woman of faith who has chosen to dedicate her whole life to the Mission of Jesus as a Xaverian Sister. Is God calling you to Mission to the margins!!?

Prayers Cross Borders!
A University of Connecticut study finds that interfaith group prayer serves as a "bridging cultural practice" in the kinds of multi-faith community organizations ... "The prayer practices we observed appear to play a crucial role in binding participants together across significant racial and socioeconomic differences,... by being inclusive of multiple faith traditions, celebrating the diversity of the group, and encouraging individuals to interact with each other." 2016 World Youth Day Logo Unveiled
Three elements are combined in the symbolism of the logo: the place, the main protagonists, and the theme of the celebration. The logo of the 2016 World Youth Day, to be held in Krakow, illustrates the passage from the Gospel according to Matthew, 5.7: 'Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy,' chosen as the theme of the event. More than a Game...
| Mundial mania: A religion for some |
As the World Cup was about to kick off, Pope Francis called on fans and competitors to celebrate the event as an opportunity to promote dialogue, respect and peace. He also warned against all forms of discrimination on the sidelines, in the stands and on the field: "Let no one become isolated and feel excluded! Watch out! 'No' to segregation, 'no' to racism!" Football is, of course, more than just a game. It has at least some similarities with religion. It involves ritual. It's about moments where we merge our identity with something larger than ourselves. Discover more.Across much of the world, soccer is known as the beautiful game. For me, soccer first opened my mind and heart to the experience of the existence of the transcendent - that which could not be explained away by the simple laws of physics - and the game taught me invaluable lessons for life's spiritual journey. Venerable Mother Celestina Bottego
Prayer
Almighty and merciful God, you placed in the heart of Mother Celestina Bottego the burning desire that
your kingdom be extended
to the ends of the earth.
You enable her to give her all
for the birth of a missionary family.
We ask you to glorify her on earth,
and through her intercession,
to grant us the grace we seek in faith.
Father, May Your Kingdom

Pray as you go is a daily prayer session, designed for use on portable MP3 players, to help you pray whenever you find time, but particularly whilst traveling to and from work, study, etc.
A new prayer session is produced every day of the working week and one session for the weekend. It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.
