 | The Peace Mothers |
All across Sierra Leone, women are leading their communities to peace. These 'Peace Mothers' are rising from unspeakable challenges to heal the wounds of their decade-long civil war and to generate new growth and development - person by person, village by village.
Pope Francis spoke of Mary in his Regina Coeli Address after Easter: "How profound her sorrow was, so much so as to pierce her soul, how intimate and profound was her joy, which the disciples were able to draw from. Having passed through the experience of the Death and Resurrection of her Son, she is seen in faith as the supreme expression of the love of God. Mary's heart became a source of peace, of consolation, of hope and of mercy... From Friday to Sunday morning, she did not lose hope: we contemplated her as the sorrowful Mother but, at the same time, as a Mother full of hope. She, the Mother of all the disciples, the Mother of the Church, is the Mother of hope."
Confronting all the hurt and sorrow, pain and suffering, conflict and poverty in our world may we, her children who call her our "Mother," be people of hope for the world. |

Greetings of Easter peace and joy! Since the last edition of ACross Borders there have been some major chances to the Xaverian Community in the UK! During Easter week, we held our 12th Regional Chapter and elected a new General Team to carry forward our new Strategy. Jim Clarke, SX is the new Regional, with John Convery, SX, Tom Welsh, SX, Ian Bathgate, SX and Kevin Ryan, SX. We wish them all the best and offer our prayers of support in their new roles. If that were enough we took time to look at the implications of Evangelii Gaudium for ourselves and the wider Catholic community.

 | Capital in the Twenty-First Century |
The French economist Thomas Piketty (Paris School of Economics) discussed his new book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century at the Graduate Center. In this landmark work, Piketty argues that the main driver of inequality-the tendency of returns on capital to exceed the rate of economic growth-threatens to generate extreme inequalities that stir discontent and undermine democratic values.
