Easter People

Pope Francis called for more intense dialogue between religious leaders, particularly Muslims. Part of his mission is to connect "all people, in such a way that everyone can see in the other not an enemy, not a rival, but a brother or sister." It is in this spirit that we as Catholics look to the world around us with the hope and compassion of the resurrected Lord.

May our Easter journey be a healing balm with our family, friends, parish and world!

Pope Francis Reaches Across Religious Borders

Francis:

On March 22nd Pope Francis on Friday (March 22) called for more intense dialogue between religious leaders, particularly Muslims, as he tries to recalibrate relations between the world's two largest religious groups.  Speaking in the Vatican's majestic Sala Regia, the Argentine pontiff said that part of his mission is to connect "all people, in such a way that everyone can see in the other not an enemy, not a rival, but a brother or sister." Coming Soon - Faith in Action

Faith in Action Staff at the Conforti Institute have been working with colleagues in three church agencies on a new resource for religious education. Drawing on the curriculum framework This is Our Faith for RE in Catholic schools, Faith in Action will help young people make the link between our faith and beliefs and the practical service we are called to in the name of Christ. Working on four themes, Inspiring Individuals, Social Justice, Looking after Creation and Peace-making, the resource will enable young people in Primary 5 and Secondary 1 to relate the work done through SCIAF, Justice and Peace Scotland and Mission Matters Scotland to the core beliefs of our faith.

Faith In Action group Faith in Action will be published in DVD/CD-ROM format with lesson outlines, PowerPoint presentations, video clips and pupil information sheets which will also be available on the internet and updated regularly. Publication is planned for August 2013.

exams The start of the summer term in Scotland means that national exams for high school students will soon be in full swing. For the education team at Conforti Institute it also means an intensive period of work on our Youth Ministry Programme and this year we will be working with teachers from Catholic High Schools in the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh for the first time. Over the next couple of years, teachers involved in school chaplaincy teams will be introduced to different components of Youth Ministry: Advocacy, Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelisation, Justice and Service, leadership Development, Pastoral Care and Prayer and Worship.

We hope that our new co-workers will enjoy the experience - and we wish their students success with their exams.

UN-WPAY

UN WPAY The United Nations youth agenda is guided by the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY). The WPAY, adopted by the General Assembly in 1995, provides a policy framework and practical guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people around the world. The WPAY covers fifteen youth priority areas and contains proposals for action in each of these areas. The fifteen fields of action identified by the international community are education, employment, hunger and poverty, health, environment, substance abuse, juvenile justice, leisure-time activities, girls and young women and the full and effective participation of youth in the life of society and in decision-making, as well as globalization, information and communication technologies, HIV/AIDS, armed conflict, and intergenerational issues. Faith That Moves Us to the Common Good

Interfaith programOn the evening of April 14th  at Fatima Shrine, Holliston, MA, we had an inspiring Interreligious panel and dialogue event, with sharing and challenging next steps. Each tradition represented, Sikh, Islam and Christianity, approach the threat of violence among people in the same way: through prayer, community, tradition (experience) and action beyond oneself to the other. Prayer puts things in perspective and gives one a power and perspective. Community holds us together, especially when one gets discouraged or weak. Tradition and experience guide us from the shared past to a preferred future. Thanks to Sunny of the Sikh Study Center of Milford, Shaheen of the Islamic Study Center of Boston at Wayland and Svea of St. John's Catholic Community in Wellesley. Interfaith participants The evening was sponsored by the Xaverian Missionaries and Pax Christi Metro West. We hope to sponsor more events such as this, both here at the Shrine and beyond.   Over 50 people came to this first event.  But where were the youth?  Calling young people who care about dialogue to our next event!!!!    Stay tuned!!! Interfaith Youth Corps Institutes

IFLI Interfaith Leadership Institutes (ILIs) equip undergraduate students, staff, and faculty with the skills to engage diverse religious and non-religious identities to build the interfaith movement on their campuses. Mexican youth spurn 'drug ballads' for 'new border wave.'

Kumbala-Maldita Vecindad (Video Oficial)

Ciudad Jurez is Mexico's deadliest city, where the drug war has been exacerbated by a well-documented (and still unsolved) wave of violence directed against women. But a growing number of young people are using music as a platform to raise their voice against the culture of violence, fear and apparent impunity enjoyed by the drug cartels and those shadowy criminals responsible for the wave of femicides.
