Cooperating School Districts' Learning Department offers  
Special Common Core and Next Generation Assessment Events during June & July

Cooperating School Districts and the St. Louis Area Curriculum Coordinators Association have collaborated with Authentic Education Consultants to create a three-day learning opportunity for educators from the region interested in Common Core State Standards & Understanding by Design. This bring your own device institute is being offered on two separate occasions:
  • June 10-12 at Fox School District  
    or
     
  • July 8-10 at Ritenour School District    

Participants should register now to ensure they can enroll in their desired workshops - sessions are filling fast. Fee: $295 for CSD members; $425 for non-members. Registration fee includes three days of professional development (including an unconference) and lunch. Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Assessment & Technology Camp, July 15-19 Ormiston

This summer, come to Cooperating School Districts to create projects that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards using digital tools that will keep a classroom buzzing with engaged students. The sessions are hands-on, fast paced, and relevant to teachers today. This week-long workshop is focused on the skills a teacher needs today to actively engage students in a 21st Century classroom. Bring your own device (BYOD)- feel free to bring more than one, actually- and get ready to learn!

National speaker Meg Ormiston has crafted this five-day tech camp to specifically focus on the skills needed to transition to the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Assessments.

The cost is $350 for CSD members and $450 for non-members. For interested educators, there are three graduate credits available upon completion of appropriate coursework. Digital Storytelling with Mobile Devices
June 5   Do you have an iPad or Android tablet? Help your students create their own digital stories by experiencing the process yourself. This workshop with Bill Bass teaches the pre-production, production and post- production phases of digital storytelling. You will have an opportunity to use either iMovie for the iPad or various Android apps. Bring your own mobile device to this session and walk away with your own 2-3 minute movie and lots of ideas for the classroom.
Are You Ready to Moogle? Combing the Power of Moodle & Google, June 11
What do you get when you combine Moodle with Google? You get amazing and engaging learning for students plus efficiency for teachers, of course! This half-day hands-on session from Diana Dell will teach you to incorporate tools such as Google Translate, Google Books, Presentations, Custom Google Search Engines, and more into your Moodle courses. PRE-REQUISITE: You must have a Google Account and/or Gmail and a basic knowledge of Moodle and Google Docs.
Free Microsoft Tools for the Classroom, June 13   Microsoft has many free tools that teachers can make use of in the classroom besides the regular MS Office suite of applications. Come learn how to use:
  • OneNote, a digital notebook
  • Flashcards, share and study online
  • WorldWide Telescope, take detailed 3D tours of the night sky
  • Mathematics 4.0, a powerful computer algebra system with a step-by-step equation solver
  • plus more! 

PRE-REQUISITE: PC computer with Windows 7 operating system. These apps will NOT work on a Mac.

Taking Discovery Education streaming to the Next Level, June 17 or July 25 
Come learn how to search for online resources  and integrate Core Standards into your lessons. Explore how to take DE streaming to the next level. Before you leave, we will show you how to bookmark your favorite videos and other resources into organized folders, then share them with others in your school or district. Save time and collaborate inside this resource. PRE-REQUISITE: You must have a DE streaming account.

Visual Literacy & the Common Core State Standards, June 20  Students are surrounded by visual images all day long. Join Julie Smith in the discussion on how learning to "read" the visual images we see in news reports and advertisements can result in critical thought and media literacy for our students. How does this type of literacy relate to Common Core?
Web 2.0 and Common Core, June 24   Learn how to use Web 2.0 to help your students create curriculum-based podcasts, infographics, screencasts, cartoons, online posters, illustrated timelines and videos. See how this type of creation on the part of students can help them meet Common Core State Standards. 
Digital Citizenship - It's Common Sense, July 11 & 12  Join Linda Dougherty and explore the nine elements of Digital Citizenship: Access, Commerce, Communication, Literacy, Etiquette, Law, Rights & Responsibilities, Health & Wellness, and Security. You'll walk away with lessons based on the NETS that you can use tomorrow. This workshop is based on the material in Digital Citizenship in Schools, an ISTE 2011 bestseller. You'll use this book and get experience with safe, legal, 21st century technology integration. Purchasing the book is recommended but not required. Book cost is $25.87 and is added onto registration. 
Integrating Technology Tools in Math to Meet Common Core State Standards, July 29   This workshop is for math teachers at all grade levels who want to understand the Missouri Core Academic Standards (CAS) for Math and how to tie technology tools into their teaching.

Graduate credit is available through Lindenwood University for most professional learning opportunities taken at Cooperating School Districts at an 
additional cost of $60 per credit hour, payable to Lindenwood University.

Requirements for graduate credit:
  • Attend the workshop or institute  
  • Develop a lesson plan that incorporates what was learned
  • Write a reflection explaining how the strategies and topics learned enhances your lesson plan

Most workshops have one graduate credit available. Exceptions:
