Gateway Media Literacy Partners Mini Conference: Pedagogy & Production

Gateway Media Literacy Partners is hosting a half-day conference at CSD for teachers, administrators, library media and technology integration specialists. Anyone who wants to learn more about media literacy, and network with local media literacy educators and professionals, is invited to participate.

Taking place Friday, June 7, the GMLP Mini Conference: Pedagogy and Production is an opportunity for those new to media literacy, or for educators wanting to take their understanding of it to the next level. All are welcome to contribute to the conversation! Speakers come from area districts like Ladue, Kirkwood, Northwest, and Parkway. A panel of local media experts including Jill Hampton of KPLR/KTVI, Jasmine Huda of KMOV, and Alvin Reid of Nine Network and 101 ESPN will also be on hand to share news and views. CSD is an institutional member of GMLP.

International Society of Technology in Education

AsMETC ISTE Affiliate an affiliate of ISTE, the Missouri Educational Technology Community, METC, is dedicated to assisting the education community through support, promotion, and leadership in the effective use of educational technology. Membership to this collaborative community is open to all educators and includes opportunities for networking, volunteering, collaboration and leadership.

We encourage you to sign a
whitehouse.gov petition  sponsored by ISTE to invest in classroom broadband activity!
Unlike the business and healthcare sectors, K-12 investment in school broadband infrastructure has lagged. ISTE recognizes that we as a nation must invest in school broadband connectivity to ensure our students graduate equipped for success.
Districts Sign on to District's-Choice Online Learning

The course options available through CSD's District's-Choice Online Learning are expanding, and school districts continue to sign on for this customizable online learning program.

The Mehlville and Wright City School Districts will both provide courses to homebound and short-term suspension students through Aventa, a program of District's-Choice vendor k12. "We're purchasing Aventa for use in our alternative school, although all high school students will have access to the course options," said Chris Gaines, superintendent of the Wright City School District. "Our team looked at several options before recommending Aventa."

Grandview School District has purchased courses through District's-Choice vendor EdisonLearning, and will offer them to students during the summer. "Edison has some STEM and foreign language courses that we don't offer," said Michael Brown, Grandview superintendent. "We believe our students and students from across the state would be interested in these online classes this summer."

CHARACTERplus Receives $100,000

In April, Stephen and Kimmy Brauer received the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award from Washington University. With this recognition came a $50,000 gift for the awardees to designate to a beneficiary organization of their choice. The Brauers selected CHARACTERplus. For the first time at the Harris Award ceremony, the recipients then matched the Harris Award gift with a personal contribution of an additional $50,000 to the selected organization, CHARACTERplus. Thanks to Stephen and Kimmy Brauer for supporting character education!

CSD Serves as Resource on Retirement Issues

Chief Financial Officer Scott Tate recently presented about 403(b)/457(b) issues that school districts face at the Missouri Association of School Business Officials state conference.

The CSD Retirement Trust benefits school districts and their employees by providing lower fees and helping to navigate the complex world of retirement planning.

The Trust continues to grow, as it recently passed the $50 million mark in plan assets. Meeting this mark means that investment fees are further reduced for program participants. For more information on how your district can join the Trust, contact Scott Tate.
