Superintendents' News  |  March 4, 2013
Greetings!

There are four important events coming up in the first half of April.  We hope that you will make plans to join us at these events, and then we will try to stay off your schedule until after school is out.

Pathways to Prosperity
Friday, April 5, 8:30 - 10:30 am at CSD
All CSD Superintendents and the deans of the schools of education of our local universities have been invited to hear Dr. Bob Schwartz of Harvard University speak about Missouri's (specifically St. Louis') involvement in Pathways to Prosperity.  Commissioner Nicastro will make the introduction.  Feel free to bring others or send someone in your place. Please RSVP for the event by contacting Karen Sisco at [email protected].

CSD Superintendents' Roundtable
Friday, April 12, Noon, Lindenwood University's Spellman Center
Commissioner Nicastro will make her annual visit, and Ray McNulty of the International Center for Leadership in Education is back with us for the day and will also speak at our meeting. Again, feel free to bring others or send someone in your place.
Please RSVP for the event by contacting Karen Sisco at [email protected]. Click here for more information on our guest speaker Ray McNulty.

CSD Open House
Wednesday, April 17,  4:30 - 6:30, at CSD
All CSD, St. Louis RPDC and local DESE staff are now on one campus.  The Open House will be your opportunity to get an update on the progress of our strategic planning process and tour the newly renovated facilities.  We will have a brief program at both 5 pm and 6 pm, and hope that you will join us.  Click here for more information or here to register.

CSD Spring Conference and Business Meeting
Thursday, April 18, 5 pm networking, 6 - 8 pm Dinner and Board Best Practices,
Lindenwood University Club, 600 Old Friedens Road, St. Charles, MO 63301

After we adopt the 2013-2014 CSD budget, we are going to try a brand new format for this meeting.  Craig Larson will do a brief introduction that facilitates small group discussions around school board best practices. We will ask board members from the same district to distribute themselves at different tables so that everyone can hear how other districts approach common issues.  Potential topics for discussion include:
  • Communicating on email without violating the Sunshine Law
  • Handling citizens statements at board meetings
  • Use of a consent agenda
  • Agenda planning to control lengthy meetings
  • Handling citizen concerns directed to board members
  • Process for establishing the school district calendar

Please RSVP to Karen Sisco at [email protected] for this event.

If you have other suggestions for a topic or if you or one of your board members would like to facilitate a group, email me with your ideas and suggestions.

Thank You!

Don
