When we become still, we begin to see and hear more clearly. It's hard to see clearly when we're always rushing here... there... everywhere. It's hard to listen with so many competing voices, outside and in. As we allow ourselves to become still, we begin to see with eyes of love and kindness. As we rest in stillness, listening closely, we begin to hear the One Voice.

As I do this (to whatever degree I am able in any given moment) I remember that we are not separate. I see the "others" in my life and I know that we are each doing the best we can. Mostly, the unskillful things people do are just annoying; not really harmful. In stillness, I see quite clearly that I am really, really gifted at being annoyed.

Most of us want to know that we are right or acceptable or even just that we're worthy of taking up space in the world. "Right" may be relative, but "worthy" is assured. Each one of us was born into this life experience as an expression of the Absolute Good-Without-Opposite which is the nature of That which we may call God. Each one of us is sacred at our core. Each and every one of us.

Some of us have forgotten the Truth of our holy nature. Some of us have covered up that sacred core with a whole lot of really-messed-up ideas and thoughts. Others almost seem intent on proving that they are the exception: they kick and scream and fight and it can appear that there is an intentional turning-away from Good. We do have free will, of course, and while we are here we get to choose what to do and what to believe.

The evidence of some peoples' lives is that there is such a thing as a power of evil, but that is not True. It is indeed a fact that people sometimes do awful, terrible, horrible - evil - things, no doubt about it. We do not live our human lives in the realm of absolute, unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable Good-Without-Opposite. We live our human lives in this realm of always-changing manifest form. When we forget that at our core we are human AND timeless, eternal Good, we sometimes make choices which do not seem very wise. Some of those choices are fairly insignificant, and others seem evil. None of those choices changes the Truth of our shared, sacred worth. No matter how badly we have chosen in the past, we can choose differently in this moment. No matter how badly we have been mistreated by others, we can choose to stand in our essential, fundamental Wholeness and claim Truth. We can always choose the Peace which is always possible.

Walking the path of Truth is not easy, but it is not really complicated, either. It can be as simple as pausing to breathe and consider our words before speaking. It can be as seemingly impossible as pausing to breathe and consider our words before speaking. It can be as gentle as waking up to Wholeness on a beautiful morning or as difficult as truly loving and blessing the one who abused you when you were an innocent child.

In 2 Peter 3:8, we are reminded, "But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day." This human lifetime is like the blink of an eye in eternity, so we don't need to beat ourselves up when we notice we've strayed from the Path (or fallen off the spiritual wagon, as my fellow traveler and teacher Barb McLawhorn says). Know and accept that right here, right now, you already are everything you think you are seeking, no matter how much the human evidence may suggest otherwise. This human lifetime had a beginning and will come to an end. The Truth of What You Are is timeless. You are, in Truth, eternal and sacred. You - just as you are, where you are, no matter what - are enough. You are a sacred blessing, living for a while here in this human world. The rest of us are glad you're here.

Blessings and namaskar (the Divine within me blesses and honors the Divine within you)

Art for Your Heart

Join us on Sunday, February 15th (12:00 to 2:00) for a simple heart-filled art activity.  Be prepared to engage your heart and hands to allow for a manifestation of Divine Love flowing through YOU!

In the coming weeks, notice as you read magazines (Daily Word, etc.) and other print media what images, words or phrases you feel drawn to.  Cut them out and stick them in a clear baggie or envelope for you to bring to this art activity. We will begin our time together with a brief moving meditation in the sanctuary followed by a time of reflection to allow ourselves to align with the creative energy of Divine Source flowing through us.

Our art activity will take place in the adult classroom (the area where we set up potluck).  You will transform a glass bottle into a bud vase.  Be prepared to get your hands messy!  Using multi-colored tissue paper, collected words/phrases/images you have gathered and diluted white glue, you will create a unique bud vase that will grace your home with heartfelt art by the end of the afternoon.  All supplies will be provided.  Feel free to bring a glass bottle of your own in addition to your collection of phrases/images/words that speak to you.  Tissue paper, white glue, foam applicators and a limited number of bottles will be available for your use.  Cathi Brandon will be facilitating this event.  Love offering for Unity Spiritual Center of Peace will be gracefully accepted.

CHILDCARE IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE DURING SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE
Our Sunday School teachers look forward to sharing Unity principles with your children aged 4-12. Our nursery is available for the very young ones, as well. We provide professionally trained and screened childcare for those ages 0-3, so that you may enjoy attending service while knowing that your little ones are well cared-for.
