Greetings!

The spiritual movement known as New Thought (which includes Unity, Centers for Spiritual Living, Divine Science and others), does not require adherence to any dogmatic creed. We teach that there are universal spiritual laws which apply to everyone, just as the law of gravity applies to everyone. Gravity doesn't care whether you "believe in it". Step off of a cliff and you will experience its effect in your life.

One universal spiritual law is that we create our experience of life through our thoughts. Notice, I did not say we create the circumstances of our lives. As the bumper sticker says, "Stuff" happens; it is through the lens of our thoughts that we experience that "stuff". In great part, this is what determines our daily happiness and satisfaction in life. Spiritual practices such as meditation and affirmations help us learn to work with our thoughts.

Another spiritual tool is music. Teaching in the early 1900s, Unity co-founder, Charles Fillmore shared this:

"... we could cultivate the power of music in connection with the understanding of Truth and thus rend all the bonds of sin, sickness, and death. The world needs a new hymnal, with words of Truth only and music so strong and powerful it will penetrate to the very center of the soul."

Happily, this new hymnal is already being written, and the music is already being recorded and performed. New Thought artists, working independently as well as coming together in organizations such as EmPower Music and Arts are, through their gifts of music, sharing music which can help re-wire the neural pathways of our brains. This music is sometimes profoundly thoughtful, frequently brilliantly funny, and always powerful. It is an enjoyable, effective spiritual tool, easily integrated into everyday life.

Besides the concert this weekend, we've got all of the music we use during Sunday services listed on our website, along with links to the artists' websites. Many of the artists post a few free downloads, so you can begin changing your music simply by pointing and clicking. Load up your mp3 player, put some songs on your phone, plug in to your car audio system, and transform your commute each day!

Additionally, one of the artists, Jana Stanfield, will be providing the music and the message during our Sunday service. We enjoy her music frequently during services, and she's been one of the artists we've been looking forward to hosting in our center.

I hope I'll see you Sunday!

Namaskar-- the divine within me recognizes and honors the divine within you!
Blessings-- Nita
