In Truth, there is no need for struggle. Our human, egoic minds have a great need for struggle, and we seem hardwired to plan, to figure out, to fix. Our human, egoic mind evolved from our so-called "lizard brain", whose sole function was to keep us and our species alive. Food, shelter, and procreation were about its only concerns, and it basically had two settings: safe and not-safe. Since danger could appear at any split second, even when all physical needs were met, it was continually monitoring the scene, ready at any moment to move into fright, flight, or fight mode.
As we move forward in our growth, we do not ever "lose" what we have been; we always grow and expand from where we are, and where we are is always a result of where we have been. Within each of us are the long-ago memories and experiences of the baby, toddler, child, and teenage we once were. Within each of us with a fully functional, highly evolved, rational and thoughtful adult mind is a fully functional lizard brain! Our human ego has taken on the work of that lizard brain and is continually monitoring for danger. It is continually looking and judging... yes/no... chaos/order... love/fear... All of the apparent dualities of life are monitored: plans are made, contingencies are worked out, and "what-if?" scenarios are created. Conflicts are sensed and sides are taken. We must be right, we must be perfect. Danger has taken on many more faces and possibilities, and most of us are exhausted!
And... at the same time this is going on, we are God expressing uniquely as the Christ within each one of us. We really only need to manage one choice, but we need to make that one choice over and over and over. This one choice is the choice to look within or look without. We are always living our lives at the intersection of cause and effect, choice and consequence, Truth or illusion. In each moment, we choose whether to base our actions, reactions, and responses on the infinite peace and possibility which we might call God, or we can base everything we do on the constantly changing world of the human ego. Guess which one will bring about more ease?
Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore reminded us that our minds are pivotal; they look within and without. Every choice we make is made either from evaluating and judging external facts and circumstances or from becoming still and listening to the wisdom of Source. Every decision ultimately comes back to our choice to look within or without. Our human mind observes and processes all the facts available to it and presents us with an option, or a series of options. By the time most of us are adults, it has become quite proficient in its work. We find jobs, pay our bills, get where we need to be on time, and all of that is indeed good. The egoic mind is not necessarily concerned with guiding us to an optimal life experience so much as it is with keeping us safe, protected, and always being right. The problem is, if we always listen to it, we may never hear the still small voice within which is always calling us to "more". More love, more peace, more ease.
We are assured that when we "seek first the kingdom of God", ALL "things" will be given. We can plan and scramble and scheme and grasp. Or, we can choose the "peace that passes understanding", which is of God- the Source from which all True Good emerges. When we become exhausted trying to figure everything out, trying to fix everyone and everything, we may choose ease. We are assured that "I AM" is the way, the Truth, and the Light. Perhaps you'd like to join me in claiming these statements as your own:
"I AM willing to trust Source. I AM willing to be still and listen. I AM willing to know that I AM God expressing as the Christ at the point I AM. I am willing to know that ALL is well and truly Good in my life now."
The Light I AM recognizes, blesses, and honors the Light You Are-
