One of our core values is education, and from the time our center was founded, we've provided Unity Institute Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) classes. Facilitating classes is one of my very favorite things to do.
For most of my classes, the final assignment for those who wish to do so, is to put some concept from the class into practical application for a period of time. At the end of that practice, students are asked to write a narrative paper about the experience.

As I travel this week, I am happy to present our Board member and SEE student, Susan Smith, who shares her experience with the final assignment for a recent class based on "Prosperity" by Charles Fillmore. Susan will also be presenting the lesson this coming Sunday (10/20); she is a wonderful speaker and always presents an inspiring and informative lesson. I will see you all on the 27th.

Blessings, Rev. Nita

What I Discovered: I'm Determined!
-- Susan J. Smith

The project I chose for this course was to complete a book I had started about a year ago. My long term goal is to publish this book with the intention to help others and to earn income. My objective for this project, however, was to complete my rough draft (to the point where I was ready to share my work with others and to get feedback from them). Although I am not completely done with my rough draft I will have the final rough draft done by the end of this month. I am happy with the progress I have made and know I will continue to make.

One of the main concepts that I have focused on from this course is utilizing my Power/Ability of Will. Charles Fillmore states in Prosperity that,
"You can be and have anything that you will to be and to have. Will to be healthy. Will to be happy. Will to be prosperous." (pg. 112)

I willed to be a creator of something that will make a positive difference in people's lives. I willed to complete writing a book about my experience and about how my spiritual tools helped me during the time my Mom and my sister Sandy became ill. When words of doubt and fear started whispering in my ear (How dare I think I had something important to say? Who do I think I am anyway? etc.) I reminded myself that these were the words of my adverse ego trying to keep me from getting hurt. Fear was whispering in my ear to stop since I didn't know how this will all turn out.

When I heard the voice of fear and felt myself begin to become immobilized by it I remembered what Charles Fillmore said in "Prosperity,"
"Use the word 'determined' and emphasize it in your affirmations." (pg. 113).

I would remind myself that I am determined to complete my creative endeavor. I would then shift from fear to faith and move forward with determination.I proceeded with my creative endeavor without setting any expectation on the outcome. I affirmed that I am determined to write my story my way and then to take the next baby step forward to share it with others, whatever that may end up looking like.

In order to follow through on my commitment to complete this project I committed to work at least two hours a day, five days a week on it. To keep myself accountable I began writing down the amount of time I worked on my calendar. I am happy to report I have done well following through on my time commitment (and worked considerably more than I committed to) and have now increased my time commitment to work at least three hours a day five days a week on this project.

With great determination I move forward with the intention of completing this project. I also am determined to continue to listen to Spirit and follow Divine Guidance when I find myself uncertain how to progress with my manuscript (knowing that there is always an abundant supply of knowledge and guidance available to me). By being determined, being willing and listening to Divine Guidance when I needed to, I can say I am happy with the 40,000 plus word document as it is so far. I feel that doing this work is something I am being called to do and that each of us should do what we are called to do. I am looking forward to the continued adventure of sharing my experiences and lessons with others as I work to finish this book. I move forward with determination and enthusiasm especially now that I have increased awareness of all the ways the abundant supply of substance supports me.
