Dear Muirlands Families,
To simplify Back-to-School for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade families, Muirlands Foundation works with the school staff to hold Orientation Day. We sincerely hope that your student(s) and family enjoy the middle school experience at Muirlands. If you are a parent or guardian of a Muirlands student, you are automatically a member of the Muirlands Foundation.
Research suggests that students with involved and informed parents perform better in school. Please visit www.muirlandsfoundation.org for ongoing volunteer opportunities and check our list of Back-to-School volunteer needs below. Additionally, our monthly meeting schedule is listed on the website's calendar: all are welcome.
Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to the 2016-17 school year.
Warm regards,
Muirlands Foundation Co-Chairs

_________________________________________________________
First Day of School: Monday, August 29th
- Students pick up class schedules in the courtyard beginning at 7:00 a.m.
- Classes begin promptly at 7:30 a.m.
Safety Notice: Traffic will be very congested, especially on the first day of school. Please plan accordingly.
Slow down, be safe and courteous, watch for bikers and walkers, and obey all traffic laws!
- Parent and student LINK Crew volunteers and Muirlands staff will be in front of the school to help direct new students. They will also be in the hallways during passing periods to provide help.
- Muirlands Foundation provides Student Planners for every student, which they will receive from their 1st period teachers on the first day of school. The planner includes a map of the school and resources, including a calendar, to help students stay organized. Students are expected to have their planner every day and to replace if necessary.
- A large manila envelope will be sent home the first week of school. It contains important paperwork that each family must fill out and return, so please be sure to check your child's backpack and read/follow directions.
- Textbooks will be distributed through the Library during the first few week of school. Muirlands Foundation pays for additional classroom textbooks so students may keep a set at home and avoid lugging a heavy backpack each day. Muirlands is also the only middle school in the district to have student lockers (assigned through science classes).
- School supplies: If you wish, please have your student bring paper and something to write with on the first day of school. The school also provides materials if needed. Individual teachers may distribute their own optional supply lists for each class typically on the first day or week. Muirlands Foundation has a scholarship fund for any student who needs assistance in purchasing needed school supplies. Please contact the school office for more information.
