Relay 4 Life

Join us Saturday June 4th at Muirlands Middle School for the Relay for Life, an inspirational event to celebrate cancer survivors, care givers and raise funds in the fight against cancer.  The Relay takes place over 24 hours, not a race, but a symbol of the supreme effort it takes to battle cancer.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life movement symbolizes hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. If cancer has touched your life, participating in a Relay for Life event is a way to take action and help finish the fight. This is your opportunity to honor cancer survivors, remember those you have lost, and raise funds and awareness to fight back and help end cancer forever.

Volunteers are needed to fill out the team "Steve Wutzke and Friends", those interested please contact Jim Wegerbauer.  To learn more about Relay for Life, join the team, or simply donate to a great cause, click here.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION about the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony!

The Muirlands 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 21, at 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the La Jolla High School (LJHS) Gymnasium.

Due to construction on the stadium, promotion will be held in the LJHS Gymnasium and seating will be limited. Each qualified 8th grade student will receive three (3) wristbands for parents/guardians and guests. Only people wearing an official wristband will be allowed to enter the LJHS Gymnasium and they will need to be worn at all times during the Promotion Ceremony. Please be considerate of this requirement. Wristbands will be delivered to qualifying 8th grade students the week of June 13, 2016 and cannot be replaced. Students and families are responsible for the wristbands which should be kept in a secure location. Students who will not use all three (3) wristbands can give their "extras" to peers/families in need of additional seats or turn them in to the Front Office for others to use. We will do our best to accommodate requests on a first come, first served basis. You may call the office to put your name on a Wait List for additional wristbands, but we cannot make any promises.

SOME GOOD NEWS: The Muirlands Foundation and some incredible volunteers have arranged for an Overflow Room in the small gymnasium adjacent to where the ceremony will be held. In this small gym, an additional 250+ guests may watch and listen to the ceremony live on a large, professional screen. The Overflow Room will be filled on a first come, first served basis until safety capacity is reached. Early Release "Blue Slips" can be completed in advance (this will be copied onto the Permission Slip that will be sent home around June 8, 2016) for students who will not be returning to Muirlands following the hour-long ceremony.

Muirlands Middle School thanks you for your understanding and patience given the unique constraints this year. Our priority is equity and fairness, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Library Tribute Fund
Muirlands Foundation would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Library Tribute Fund this year, which allowed us to invest more than $1,300 in new books for the very well-used library.  To support the curriculum and research-based projects, Library Tech Deb David focused on improving many of the outdated non-fiction materials associated with history and science, purchasing titles that reflect current events and new scientific thinking. Of course, wonderful new and popular fiction titles and series were added to the library as well. Next time you volunteer in the library - ask Deb about the new books. Thank you for your generosity, Muirlands Families. Reading books (not just screens) is still a very popular activity at our school!
