YOU ROCKED AGAIN, MUIRLANDS!
Almost cancelled, glad we didn't. Our community came together and saved the day. Thank you to:
- Hundreds of families that attended
- 70+ parents that volunteered
- 26 teachers/staff that came to help
- 40 family and business sponsors whose generously kept the event free admission and/or provided opportunity drawing prizes
- 80 fantastic student volunteers from Muirlands and La Jolla High combined
Special thanks to a rockin' planning team that put in the hardcore hours to make it possible: Melanie Aalbers, Laura Brown, Madeleine de Torsiac, Janna Elliott, Bronwyn Jarvis, Barbara Hagey, Wendy Hamilton, Renee Kenagy, Rosie McAuliffe, Barbara Hagey, Tara Nitahara, and Celeste Trudeau.

Progress Reporting Period Ended Last Friday, April 29th
Progress Reports Will Be Sent Home May 6th
 Last Friday, April 29th was the end of the P4 progressing reporting period. You and your child should take advantage of PowerSchool Parent Portal to monitor performance on an ongoing basis so there are no report card surprises. If your child's grades need improvement: - Please consider contacting your child's counselor for additional advice or strategies.
- Muirlands offers After School Homework Help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and a late bus that leaves at 3:40 p.m. so all students can take advantage of this extra time on task.
- In addition, many teachers host small group tutoring and support in their classrooms during certain lunchtimes and by appointment.

Muirlands Art Student Contest Winners
Congratulations to these students who placed so well in the Gallery of Dreams Art Contest hosted by C2 Education: - Olive Winograd won first place and a $1000 scholarship

There are many FREE EVENTS at our public libraries! Here are some upcoming events at La Jolla Rifford Library interesting to Middle School students:
On Saturday, May 7th at 3pm there will be a Crime Scene Science workshop. Students (and their parents) can learn powerful molecular techniques for solving crimes using DNA. Click here to sign up. On Thursday May 19th at 3pm experts from the Fab Lab will be giving their last 3D design and printing workshop until the Fall. IMPORTANT INFORMATION about the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony!
The Muirlands 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 21, 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the La Jolla High School (LJHS) Gymnasium. PLEASE NOTE: Due to construction on the stadium, promotion will be held in the LJHS Gymnasium this year and seating will be limited. Each qualified 8th grade student will receive three (3) guest tickets. Students who will not use all three tickets can give their "extras" to peers/families in need of additional tickets or turn them into the Front Office for others to use. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. PLEASE CLICK HERE for additional information.

La ceremonia de promoción del 8º grado de Muirlands será el martes, 21 de junio de
8: 30 a.m. a 9: 30a.m. en el Gimnasio de la Escuela Preparatoria La Jolla.
NOTA: Debido a la construcción en el estadio de La Jolla High School (LJHS), y para minimizar los gastos, la promoción se llevará a cabo en el Gimnasio de LJHS este año. Por lo cual, los asientos serán limitados. Por favor, tenga en cuenta que la ceremonia de promoción sera solo una hora.
Cada estudiante elegible del octavo grado recibirán tres (3) boletos para familia. Entendemos que quisieran tener amigos en asístencia para celebrar su hijo y familia.
Los estudiantes que no van a utilizar los tres boletos pueden donar sus "extras" a sus compañeros / familias en necesidad de boletos adicionales. A lo contrario, los boletos que no se utilizen se deben entregar a la Oficina Escolar. Estos boletos "extra" estarán disponibles a través de su solicitud en la Oficina Escolar y se repartirán en el orden que se recibió la solicitud. Haremos todo lo posible para facilitar todas las solicitudes.

Find a friend and dress alike.

Assessment testing will be on select days between May 3rd and May 20th. Click here for testing calendar. Please plan appointments for your students and absences other than illness accordingly.

 Student Leadership Opportunity for Current 6th & 7th Graders

Link Crew is a volunteer student ambassador group that provides school tours, runs information booths and helps incoming families at Muirlands Orientation Day on August 23, 2016 - the week before school starts. Welcome Event for 8th Grade Students and Families Wednesday, May 18th, 6pm, LJHS  The LJHS PTA invites you to attend the annual Welcome to LJHS event on Wednesday, May 18th at 6 p.m. This informational evening will be outside, on the green, in front of the school office at LJHS. We will have a variety of presenters including the Principal of LJHS speaking about what LJHS has to offer to you and your family! Click here for a flyer with more information.
