We Need Your Help Preparing for the Annual Art Exhibition (at Muirlands Rocks this Year)    
NO Experience Needed, Just Willing Hands
 
Parent help is needed for Muirlands Annual Art Exhibition!!!  You do NOT need to be "creative".  Please contact me if you can get involved in any of the following ways:
  1. Prep artworks (mount/mat works or attach name cards) now-April 29th anytime during school hours
  2. Help hang artwork Friday, April 29th (anytime 7:45-3:00)
  3. Help pop (we'll need muscles) and then prep Art Tent on field before show (on display at Muirlands Rocks), Sunday May 1st from 11:00-1:30.
  4. Help take down tent and/or move show onto campus after Muirlands Rocks, Sunday May 1st from 5:30-6:45 (we'll need muscles)
  5. Simple flower arrangement(s) for show.

Spare Change Collected This Week Will Support a Child's Education!  

Thank you to everyone who supported their child with the "Uganda Education Campaign" donation drive.  We are continuing to raise funds through our "Spare Change" initiative in 1st period classes through Friday April 22nd. Students are encouraged to donate any spare change in the "Uganda Education Campaign Jars" that were passed out to their 1st period teachers last week.


Society of Women Engineers Exploring Technology Special Event for 6th-8th Graders

The San Diego Professional Section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE-San Diego) is hosting an exciting opportunity for middle school girls to learn about science and technology careers. The program features four exciting science-based activities where the girls will learn to think like an engineer in a hands-on environment. 

Parents and teachers are given the opportunity to attend a parallel program that will help sustain the girls' STEM interests long after the activity day is over.

Progress Reporting Period Ends Next Friday, April 29th
 
Next Friday, April 29th is the end of the P4 progressing reporting period. You and your child should take advantage of PowerSchool Parent Portal to monitor performance on an ongoing basis so there are no report card surprises.

If your child's grades need improvement:
  • Please consider contacting your child's counselor for additional advice or strategies.
  • Muirlands offers After School Homework Help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and a late bus that leaves at 3:40 p.m. so all students can take advantage of this extra time on task.
  • In addition, many teachers host small group tutoring and support in their classrooms during certain lunchtimes and by appointment.

Getting CUEd Up!

With the support of the Muirlands Foundation, 7 teachers and Principal Klein attended the 3 day Computer Using Educators (CUE) Conference in March held in Palm Springs. They learned a tremendous amount: more about Google Apps for Education, Google Cultural Institute, Thinglink, Ed Puzzle, YouTube, Go Formative, Quizizz, graphic organizers and flowcharts, digital rubrics, and more!

This professional conference was inspiring and a great opportunity for Muirlands colleagues to collaborate, network, and further develop skills.

College is for Me Conference 
Saturday, April 30th, 9am-1pm, CSU San Marcos

The Early Assessment Program (EAP) at CSU San Marcos is proud to announce the first annual, "College Is For Me" Conference.

This conference is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9 am to 1 pm and is for middle & high school students and their families. It is an opportunity for people who have not considered college to learn how higher education can be a means for self-empowerment. Topics:
  • What college/higher education can do for you
  • How to get into college
  • How to pay for college/higher education
  • Connections to make in college/higher education
  • The college experience student panel
  • Community organization and higher education fair.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION about the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony!    
The Muirlands 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 21, 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the La Jolla High School (LJHS) Gymnasium.

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to construction on the stadium, promotion will be held in the LJHS Gymnasium this year and seating will be limited. Each qualified 8th grade student will receive three (3) guest tickets.
Students who will not use all three tickets can give their "extras" to peers/families in need of additional tickets or turn them into the Front Office for others to use. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.  PLEASE CLICK HERE for additional information.
