| ASB Talent Show at Muirlands
Audition Application Forms Are Due TOMORROW, Feb. 17th
Get ready to showcase your talent at the ASB Talent Show at Muirlands on April 29th from 4:00-6:30 pm in the Auditorium! PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT DATES:- Audition Application Forms* are REQUIRED and must be turned into Coach Serafin or the front office NO LATER than TOMORROW (Wednesday) Feb. 17th.
- You will be notified of your audition date, which will be Feb. 22nd, 23rd or 24th during lunch.
- Mandatory After-School Rehearsals will be held on April 19th, 26th and 29th from 2:30-3:30.
* You can also pick up an Audition Form from your 1st Period teacher or the front office. |
8th Grade Articulation Cards (Course Selection)
LJHS Counselors will be at Muirlands Wednesday & Thursday to Assist with 9th Grade Course Selection
- La Jolla High School Counselors presented 2016/2017 course information to our 8th graders on February 10th during history classes and distributed articulation cards.
- On Wednesday (Feb. 17th) and Thursday (Feb. 18th), LJHS counselors will return to Muirlands and meet with students during history classes to assist with 9th Grade course selection.

Parent Sex Education Materials Preview This Week
There will be an opportunity for all 6th and 8th grade parents to preview the Sex Education teaching materials used in the two week Sexual Education units that will be taught during the last two weeks of the school year.

Several Instrumental Music Choices at LJHS for PE or Fine Arts Credit
ALL Levels Encouraged to Participate!
 Dear 8th Grade Parents, Your student has several options to participate in instrumental music at LJHS. Depending on the class, our courses can satisfy either Physical Education or Fine Arts requirements for UC admissions.
ALL students (from absolute beginners to advanced) are welcome and encouraged to take any and all classes, even if they did not play in the band or orchestra at Muirlands. The often IMMEDIATE benefits that taking music courses has on all other disciplines (from math and science to language and expression) has been well documented, and I am proud to say this has not gone unnoticed here in La Jolla.
Class options include:
- PE Marching Band (PE credit)
- Intermediate Band (Fine Arts credit)
- Jazz Band (Fine Arts credit)
- String Orchestra (Fine Arts credit)
- Plus fun social activities outside of class!

Happy Heart Run is Feb. 25th
Happy Heart Run is Muirlands Middle School's Annual PE Fundraiser where family and friends pledge money to support the students as they run laps.
Our 14th annual Happy Heart Run will be held Thursday, Feb. 25th, during PE classes.
Funds raised through this annual event make it possible for our Physical Education Department to provide swim instruction and specialized fitness equipment to supplement P.E. standards and get students excited about fitness.
We need volunteers to pass out fruit, water & sports drinks to students. It's fun and easy, and supports our PE department! Please click here to sign up.

Join Principal Klein for a Principal's Chat on Friday, February 26th 9-10am in the Library. You will learn about the exciting things happening at our school and have an opportunity to ask questions.
To maximize time with Mr. Klein and make sure all voices are heard, we're providing a format for questions/topics in advance. Art News
Thank You and Congratulations!
 Thank you, thank you to all the teachers, parents, staff and students that worked hard to make the Balboa Park Field Trip a success!! Special thanks and gratitude to parent volunteers Edie Jones and Heidi Becker for going up and beyond to help make it happen. It was a beautiful day of art discovery!
 Congratulations to Muirlands Art Students Myka Gary, Jorge Meckelein, Azeneth Gutierrez and Jessie Gomez whose artworks were selected by a jury for the Youth Art Month (Y.A.M.) Art Exhibit showcasing some of the best San Diego County Student artworks. On display now through March at the San Diego Art Institute at Balboa Park. Click here for more details. Leave your mark AND benefit the Muirlands Foundation by decorating a ceramic tile to be added to our existing project. Tile kits can be purchased online for $50 and picked up at the front office (please bring your receipt).
