  • Games begin TODAY, January 26th at Lunch on the PE basketball courts.
  • Please do not bring any food or drinks to the PE area (water bottles are allowed for the players).

SSC and SGT Meetings
Thursday, Jan. 28th, 2:30pm, Library 
  • School Site Council (SSC) from 2:30-3:15pm.  
  • Site Governance Team (SGT) will meet from 3:15-4:00pm

Semester 1 Ends This Friday! 

You and your child should take advantage of PowerSchool Parent Portal to monitor performance on an ongoing basis so there are no report card surprises.

If your child needs help improving or maintaining his or her grades:
  • Consider contacting your child's counselor for advice or strategies.
  • Muirlands offers After School Homework Help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and a late bus that leaves at 3:40 p.m. so all students can take advantage of this extra time on task.
  • In addition, many teachers host small group tutoring and support in their classrooms during certain lunchtimes and by appointment.

STEAM Career Day is Feb. 2nd
Greeters and Photographers Needed

 
STEAM Career Day is February 2nd from 9:00 - 11:30 AM.  All students will hear presentations by 3 professionals working in fields related to the arts and sciences.

We need a few hands on campus the morning of Feb. 2nd: 
  • Greeters: to help make sure all presenters are welcomed, checked in, have what they need 
  • Photographers: to document this very special event!

6th Grade Camp Cuyamaca 

Click here for trip information. GOOD NEWS!  We now have 2 chaperones.   

An UPDATED participant list, as well as a packing list have been posted. If you are not on the participant list and think you should be, please Michelle Scherrer ASAP at [email protected].

Necessary camp forms were passed out at the first camp meeting after school on Jan. 21st.  Please return all forms promptly to the school office.   

If your child will need medication administered while at camp, or has a medically identified food allergy there is a special form that must be completed by your child's physician.  Vegetarians do not need a doctor's note. Please contact Michelle directly if your child did not receive a copy of this form.

The second pre-camp meeting will be held on March 3rd, from 2:15-2:50. Location announced soon.

Countdown to Competition -- Feb. 6th! 



In preparation for our Feb. 6th Regional Competition: 
  • We will have a final important student lunchtime meeting (either Tues. or Thurs. next week -- stay tuned for date). Students will receive competition t-shirts and final instructions. 
  • Some coaches will be holding extra practices. Parents, please support your event coaches and show appreciation for their hard work by lending a hand if asked.  
  • Several students have signed up for self-study events. Laura will be available in the Muirlands Library after school on Tuesday to assist them. 
  • We will need parent volunteers the day of the event! Stay tuned for a Sign Up Genius with specific jobs.
  • We still need to collect the REGIONAL COMPETITION PAPERWORK* from several students. Please return these to the office:

8th grade parent night involves an overview of La Jolla High, what to expect in terms of the transition from middle school to high school, advice for parents, LJHS graduation requirements (a-g), UC/CSU requirements, math sequences, description of Academic Handbook, electives available to freshmen, sample 4 year schedules, Naviance, PowerSchool, Project Lead the Way Biomedical Pathway, and lots more fun tidbits!
 
ASB Valentine's Social

$1 Tickets On Sale Starting Feb. 2nd

The ASB Valentine's Social is Thursday, February 11th in the Auditorium during lunchtime. Starting February 2nd, students can purchase tickets for $1. Minimum 2.0 citizenship GPA to attend.  

8th Grade Ad Deadline 

Parents of 8th graders, yearbook ads are a great way to celebrate student success and milestones and reflect on the person your student has become. Ad price is $30 and the deadline is February 14th.

 

If you have not yet purchased your yearbook, you can still do so.

Happy Heart Run is Feb. 25th
 
Did you know that 12 new basketballs cost $240? Volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, tennis -- Muirlands students play all sorts of ball sports. That's 1,100 students using PE equipment on hard surfaces five days a week! 

District funding for PE equipment is quite limited. The annual student Happy Heart Run, February 25th, helps maintain and renew equipment specifically for the PE Department. We hope you'll participate. To volunteer on run day to support the runners, click here.

Leave your mark AND benefit the Muirlands Foundation by decorating a ceramic tile to be added to our existing project. Tile kits can be purchased online for $50 and picked up at the front office (please bring your receipt).

NEW LAW:
Under a new law enacted by SB 277, beginning January 1, 2016 personal beliefs exemptions will no longer be an option for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into child care or school in California. Personal beliefs exemptions already on file will remain valid until the child reaches the next immunization checkpoint at transitional kindergarten/ kindergarten or 7th grade.
