Bugs for Billions!
RSVP by THIS Thursday, Nov. 5th Workshop is on Thursday, Nov. 12th, 2:10-3:30pm
In this hands-on workshop, participants will play microbe detective to reveal the unseen life in soil and discover microbes that can enable farmers to feed a growing global population. Guided by microbial scientists from Monsanto's San Diego Research Center and armed with a laboratory worksheet to record their findings, students will grow microbes found in Muirlands soil, observe different shapes and sizes of microbes through the microscope, and preserve microbes in a biobank through freezing. Students will also practice with a model DNA sequencer and learn how researchers use DNA to identify species. The workshop will be held after school from 2:10 - 3:30 on Thursday, Nov. 12, in Room 403. It's free and all Muirlands students are invited. Sign up with your Science teacher by NOV. 5th to reserve your spot!

We Have Several Important Volunteer Openings
No experience necessary - just a willingness to help!
Art: Help in the classroom/hanging artwork around school (no art background required!)
Muirlands Rocks Games Committee: Research/create new games and refresh existing games for this spring community event. Email [email protected].
6th and 7th Grade BBQ Coordinator: Help coordinate a few volunteers and serve bbq food for this on-campus event in December. Email [email protected].
8th Grade Promotion Planning Team: Work with a few administrators and volunteers to coordinate text for a printed program and some decorations for this important day. Email [email protected].
