I am about to leave for a week in Tahoe. Be sure to schedule your own vacation - it seems like there is never any time but it is so important for your health and wellness.

No sooner do we complete our audit but we are immersed in budgeting for next year and planning for changes in our health insurance offerings. We are also in the final rounds of interviews for a new facilities manager.

It was great meeting so many of you at Planning for Tomorrow.

Happy summer!
Happy Fourth of July!

Warm regards,
Canon Julie Young

I know some of you are getting a head start on your budget process. I applaud you for this and want to alert you to changes that will affect your budgeting. The California minimum wage for hourly (non-exempt) employees increases to $10.50 per hour on January 1. Although nonprofits have an additional year to comply with this increase, I encourage you to act on this now in keeping with the General Convention resolution to raise all employees to a minimum wage. The federal living salary for salaried (exempt) lay employees will increase to $47,600 on December 1 whether the employee is part time or not. More guidance regarding how to implement this change will be forthcoming next month.

Pension requirements for school employees who work more than 1,000 hours per year will increase to 4% base with up to a 3% match. Health insurance cost increases are not yet available; I suggest you use 7% increase as a place holder.

Lastly, the mission share pledge is now called "Common Life Share" per a resolution passed at last convention, it is now 10.5% of Line B of the parochial report.

HR Tip of the Month
Health Insurance Changes and New Harassment Policy Requirements
We have been informed by the Medical Trust that the Aetna and United Health Care plans will not be offered next year. What will be offered are Anthem BCBS PPO's and High Deductible plans as well as Kaiser. We will schedule member education in late October or early November - stay tuned!  Open enrollment takes place from November 7 to 23.
New Harassment Policy rules took effect in April. View a checklist (PDF) and a sample policy (PDF).

Diocesan Convention
Convention will be November 11 and 12 at St. Margaret's, Palm Desert. Please be sure to get your lay delegate certificates to Bobbi HoffWith convention in November, our budget timeline has changed. Congregational requests for 2016 grants will be due September 1; those congregations that are eligible for grants will be emailed the link to the online application by July 15. Program and ministry grants are also due September 1; link to the online application will be provided in July Finance & Admin News. Congregations that are not up-to-date on their mission share pledge/common life share payments or have reduced their pledge to less than 10% will be required to submit a waiver request in order to have voice and vote at convention. Waiver requests are due October 7.
