Camperships help kids go to camp who otherwise couldn't.

For refugee children living in San Diego, summer camp provides an experience free from the pressures of home and school where quarters can be tight and exams are given. Every camper at Camp Stevens is encouraged to explore and learn more about themselves, one another, and God's abundant creation. And it is through this exploration that transformation occurs, friendships are made, God's love is shared, and perspectives are widened.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the partnership between RefugeeNet and Camp Stevens, and this summer, over 40 refugee youth will celebrate with a week of adventure and fun in the mountains. I urge you to support these vital ministries and to help raise awareness and the $31,000 to send refugee children to summer camp!

On June 19, just before World Refugee Day, the Diocese of San Diego will collect the loose plate offering for the RefugeeNet-Camp Stevens Campership Drive. Please join us!

Your congregation's support of the RefugeeNet Campership Drive will provide the following:
  • Funds for RefugeeNet to purchase camping supplies. $75 per camper will purchase toiletries, a new towel, underwear, socks, and a swimsuit, a flashlight and water bottle, and a duffle bag. The total need for supplies is $3,000.
  • A transformational week at Camp Stevens. Just $700 provides trained, caring counselors; home-cooked, healthy meals; craft and medical supplies; bus transportation to and from the city; and access to acres and acres of open space riddled with adventure for each camper. At least 40 refugee children will attend Camp Stevens this summer making the Refugee Campership Fund goal $28,000.
Thank you for your ministry in the Diocese of San Diego and beyond, and for joining this important project and partnership which ministers to our neighbors in need.

Faithfully,
best jim
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes
