I hope you are having a joyous Easter season even as you attend to audits and look forward to the end of the Sunday School year. Our audit starts April 25 so we are immersed in preparation for it.

Please pay special attention to HR Help this month as it has new compliance information that is now required.

A fellow diocesan administrator shared the following prayer
with me. I trust it will resonate with some of you!

FROM THE LITTLE THINGS KEEP ME, O LORD
A Parvulis Libera Me, Domine

Keep me, O Lord,
from the little, the interfering, and the stupid;
from the infection and anger over nothings;
Deliver me, and keep me, O my Lord.

from all promptings to decry the person or work of others;
from scorn, sarcasm, petty spite, and whisperings behind the back;
from the dishonest honesty of frankness meant to hurt;
Deliver me, and keep me, O my Lord.

from hasty judgments, biased judgments, cruel judgments, and all pleasure in them;
from resentment over disapproval or reproof, whether just or unjust;
Deliver me, and keep me, O my Lord.

from all imposition of my own fads and interests upon my acquaintance;
from burdening and boring others with my own anxieties and ailments;
from self-justification, self-excusing, and complacency;
Deliver me, and keep me, O my Lord.

-The Very Reverend Eric Milner-White

Treasurer Tip of the Month
A couple weeks ago I attended a conference in San Diego for diocesan executives. We were privileged to hear Bishop Curry speak. He reminded us that the work of finance and admin people is critical to the life and mission of the Church. In keeping with that theme, I would like to share with you a recent article from Church Law & Tax called "What a Successful Church Accounting Department Manager Looks Like." I hope you will take the time to read it.

The Pregnancy Disability Leave Poster was changed on April 1 and all organizations with employees are required to post the new notice. Every year employers are required to post a new compliance poster with a variety of laws and notices. If you have not done so, now is your opportunity to order one with the new pregnancy disability notice: California Chamber of Commerce Online Store

Parochial Reports
Parochial reports were due March 1. Thank you to all of you who have sent yours in! Be sure to provide your 2015 year-end financials, 2016 budget and reconciliation of the financials and parochial report. If you have any questions, please contact Rosa Feeney. Reconciliation forms are available online: www.edsd.org/parochialreports.

Audits - Audit Notification Due April 15

Audits are not due until September 1 but now is the time to familiarize yourselves with the guidelines and the workbook that has been sent to you. Please note that the form in the workbook asks you to identify your audit committee and tell us what type of audit you will conduct this year is due April 15. For more information, visit our website: edsd.org/audit. Please contact Rosa Feeney if you have any questions.

Upcoming Seminar on Endowments
All congregations in the diocese should have received an email from Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) in the last couple of weeks with an explanation of the endowment that has been set up for them and information on adding to it. ECF is offering a seminar on April 20 regarding Spending Rules and Investment Allocations for endowments. Other archived webinars include "Strategic Visioning and Planning for Congregation," First Steps to Leading Change", and "Developing a Leadership Covenant." For more information, see http://www.ecfvp.org/webinars.

We encourage you to close your office on June 6 and send all your lay employees to Planning for Tomorrow. This is a Church Pension Group sponsored event that will provide lay employees important information about retirement planning.

Clergy Planning for Tomorrow will be held June 7 and 8. Both clergy and lay employees should look for invitations in the mail and via email. More information is available on our website.

The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego and its employees do not provide, and none of the information furnished in this email should be viewed as investment, tax, or legal advice. The content of this email is provided for your information purposes only.
