Bishop Mathes and Diocesan Banner Easter Services with Bishop Mathes
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes, bishop, will offer a meditation during the Good Friday service at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego, 92103 at 12 p.m. on March 25. In the Great Vigil of Easter, Saturday, March 26, 7 p.m., the choir sings this candle light vigil culminating in the first mass of Easter, confirmations and re- affirmations; Bishop Mathes presides and preaches. Champagne reception following. The bishop will preside and preach on Easter Day during the 8:30 a.m. service and the 10:30 a.m. service. All are welcome.

Celebrations of New Ministry
Help us welcome the Rev. Mark Hargreaves to new ministry at St. James by-the-Sea, 743 Prospect St., La Jolla. The Celebration of New Ministry will be Sunday, May 1 at 5 p.m. at St. James by-the-Sea.

Likewise, we plan to celebrate new ministry with the Rev. Janine Schenone and the people of Good Samaritan on Saturday, June 18 at 2 p.m. 4321 Eastgate Mall, San Diego, 92121.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend both celebrations.

Welcoming New Clergy Members
We joyfully welcome the Rev. Jeff Martinhauk to his new position at St. Paul's Cathedral as the director of congregational life. Jeff joined the staff in January. He most recently served as rector of St. Timothy's, Apple Valley. Welcome, Jeff!

The Rev. Kent Branstetter accepted a call to serve as rector of St. Dunstan's, Del Cerro. He will begin in May. Interestingly enough, he served as the youth minister at St. Dustan's in 1982. Welcome back, Kent!

The application process for Fearless Love Grants is open now until March 16. These funds support new, innovative ministry ideas with priority given to those that partner with other congregations, enhance spirituality, emphasize youth, young adults and form disciples, among other things. Leadership Academy
If you weren't able to attend last month's Leadership Academy, you can still benefit from the wealth of knowledge from presenters. Many have shared their slide presentations, and some videos from the day are available online. There you will find information on: human resources, finance and administration, graphic design, missional living, how vestry service can deepen your spiritual life, youth ministry, social media, and how to make your property work for you. This information has been sent to all wardens and attendees as well. 

Trips to the Holy Land, Turkey and Greece with David Moseley, Ph.D.
Embark on an adventure this summer with David Moseley, PhD, religious studies teacher at The Bishop's School, theologian-in-residence at St. Paul's Cathedral, and former professor of theology at the University of San Diego. As well as leading trips to the Holy Land (Israel, Palestine and Jordan) in June and working alongside local guides, David will teach a series of classes in the spring for trip participants about the history, geography and culture of the places visited on the trip. Gary Hall Gary Hall Annual Retreat
April 8 - 10 at Camp Stevens, 1108 Banner Rd., Julian. 
"Listening for God in Nature, Scripture, and the Human Community" Christians and Jews have historically heard God speaking in the Holy Scriptures. We are also inheritors of a history (sometimes suppressed in our traditions) of listening for God in the created order of the natural world. The justice movements of our faiths have long heard God speaking in the voices of the poor, the outcast, and the oppressed. In this weekend retreat, Gary Hall will bring a selection of readings on which we'll reflect together in four sessions, leaving time for outdoor explorations on our own. School for Ministry
School for Ministry Spring Workshops - $25 each
The diocesan School for Ministry (SFM) is a great place to learn in a community. Spring workshops (only $25 each) feature talented teachers including Michael J. Christiensen (video below). Upcoming topics include: church redevelopment, church systems, theology and practice of shalom, building and leading teams, leading change, and fresh expressions of ecclesia. In this Quiet Day, we will explore the four contemplative habits of stillness, silence, surrender, and gratitude as we learn or refresh practices of centering prayer, guided imagery, affirmations, and awareness of the presence of God. Via Crucis Via Crucis: Called to the Wall
Saturday, March 19, 8:30 a.m. pilgrims will embark from the diocesan cathedral in Los Angeles to the US-Mexico international border praying the Stations of the Cross as they go. We will join them at St. Paul's Cathedral for lunch around 12:30 p.m. and caravan by car to the border where we will celebrate a bi-national Eucharist. Bishop Mathes plans to celebrate from the Mexican side this year. All are welcome to participate in this act of solidarity with immigrants. More Info

Maundy Thursday Footwashing
All are welcome to join the effort in Ocean Beach for the annual interfaith community footwashing. Thursday, March 24, 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Episcopal Church Center. The Diocesan Service Coalition (DSC) is a consortium of outreach coordinators from churches throughout the diocese who meet quarterly to network, share ideas, and collaborate on outreach projects. Our winter service summit will be Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at St. Peter's, 334 14th St., Del Mar. All are invited. Our afternoon session begins at 12:30 p.m. and features a panel of speakers talking about prison ministry. Youth Collaborative Meetings

Spring Youth Retreat

Middle School Urban Immersion Trip
Urban Immersion will be a three-day intensive experience combining cross-cultural exposure, hands-on service projects and spiritual reflection in the heart of San Diego's most diverse neighborhood. Highlights include visiting the farmer's market, the food pantry, family-style dinner at the Red Sea restaurant, and guided spiritual reflection. SUMMA Theological Debate Camp
All high school students are encouraged to consider attending the SUMMA Theological Debate Camp at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, July 18 - 26. National Day of Prayer

Dean Bridges to Participate in USD Conference

Sister Simone Campbell Speaking in Pasadena
Simone Campbell, SSS, author of Nun on the Bus, and activist for economic justice, will be a keynote speaker at The Episcopal Network for Stewardship's annual conference, June 3 - 4 at All Saints', Pasadena.
