This is the first February where we aren't scrambling to get ready for convention; it is kind of nice! However, we have kept ourselves busy organizing for Leadership Academy and are already planning for convention, which will be Friday - Saturday, November 11 - 12 at St. Margaret's, Palm Desert.

I hope all of your annual meetings went well. Be sure to send us a copy of the handout.

Hope to see you all at Leadership Academy!

Warm regards,
Canon Julie Young

Treasurer's Tips of the Month
HSA contributions for employees participating in high deductible plans must be reported on W2s Box 12.

The 2016 IRS rate for mileage reimbursement for employees is 54 cents per mile. If you reimburse volunteers, the maximum allowable tax-free reimbursement is 14 cents per mile.
HR Tip of the Month
Employees are eligible for lay pension plan immediately upon hire; there is no waiting period.  Employees who work over 1000 hours per year should be offered health insurance; employees who work over 1500 hours per year but less than full time are eligible for paid benefits on a pro rated basis with a minimum of 90% of employee only coverage. Full time employees are entitled to 100% employee only coverage of the base plan. Refer to your congregational denominational health policy for specifics.

LA2016Leadership Academy
Come to St. Bartholomew's, Poway on Saturday, February 20. We have rich offerings of fifteen workshops plus a plenary with the Rt. Rev. Mary Gray-Reeves, bishop of El Camino Real. Some of the offerings include:
  • Vestry 101
  • Church Finance & Admin
  • Human Resource Management
  • Parochial Report (how-to)
  • Property Maintenance (use, energy savings, solar)
For more information and registration, visit the diocesan website

Audit Workbooks

By now you should have received your audit binder. Be sure to open it to review guidelines so you can plan what type of audit is needed. If you are scheduled for a diocesan audit review, we included a letter in the binder to let you know.

Church Officer Data Collection Forms

The church officer data collection form is requested so that we can know your church leadership. If you prefer, you can email Keren Mondaca (formerly Keren Rodriguez) a roster that includes vestry, wardens, treasurer and key parish employees.

Planning for Tomorrow
We encourage you to close your office on June 6 and send all your lay employees to Planning for Tomorrow. This is a Church Pension Group sponsored event that will provide lay employees important information about retirement planning.

Clergy Planning for Tomorrow will be held June 7 and 8. Please put it on your calendar!
