Backpacks Packed with Love from St. John's, Chula Vista
I believe in this mission and it is obvious our congregation agrees. St. John's parishioners purchased, and I assembled, a record of 105 backpacks for the South Bay Community Services. Read the blog post.

Catedral Young Adult Selected for Racial Reconciliation Pilgrimage
Grecia Rivas, one of the Latina parishioners at St. Paul's Cathedral (Catedral), was selected to participate in the churchwide young adult pilgrimage to Ferguson, Missouri. Episcopalians between the ages of 18-30 will embark on the journey October 8-12 to learn about community organizing, race issues and the holy work of reconciliation. ˇFelicidades! Vaya con Dios.

Sock Mountain
The Diocesan Service Coalition encourages each congregation to bring sock donations to Diocesan Convention on Saturday, November 7. Bishop Mathes will bless this sock mountain and then we will dismantle it and give the socks away to people in need. If your congregation would like to be a distribution point, contact Drusilla Grubb. Start your sock drive now. The congregation that brings the most socks will win bragging rights, the highly coveted Golden Sock Award and a special blessing.  

Holy Land Trip Informational Meeting
Attend an informational meeting about upcoming excursions to the Holy Land and to the Greek Isles. Following a well-received trip to the holy land in June 2015, Dr. David Moseley will lead these two adventures next summer. Youth Retreat at Camp Stevens
There is still room to join other Episcopal youth for service, faith and fun. We will participate in the diocesan day of service on Sunday by helping Camp Stevens with a volunteer project. Graphic Design Workshop
Graphic artist Megan Stanton (St. Michael's, Carlsbad) provides expert tips and tricks at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego on Wednesday, November 11, 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Megan will discuss, provide feedback, and spend time working with you. Get Involved with Episcopal Community Services this Christmas
The holidays are just around the corner! Consider partnering with Episcopal Community Services (ECS) to brighten the Christmas season for the homeless adults they serve through their programs. Ways you can help include:
  • Donate Christmas decorations to liven up the Safe Havens or Friend to Friend program center.
  • Provide items for a meal, gift bags or activities for our Friend to Friend Christmas party on Tuesday, December 22, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and join the party if you can!
  • Along with a small group of friends from your church, work, etc., provide lunch for 20-30 of ECS' program members at our monthly Life Celebration event on Friday, December 18.
  • Donate gift cards or other items for the Christmas gift bags for our Safe Haven clients.

Paige Blair's Icon Art Show
October 9 - 18, St. James, 743 Prospect St., La Jolla, Library. Experience the prayerful and transformative power of this ancient medium of religious art. The show will kick off with an opening night reception on Friday, October 9, 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. $25 per person, includes appetizers and beverages. The Rev. Paige Blair, rector of St. Peter's, Del Mar, wrote these icons which will be displayed in the courtyard and library. Icons and prints/reproductions will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will support the diocesan School for Ministry. On October 18 at 5 p.m. a special Taizé music service in the courtyard will close the exhibit. Visiting Actor to Perform Modern Slave Story
This gripping true story is full of life. Kathleen Thompson plays six characters in sync with video and music. Converse with Ms. Thompson after each performance; expert panelists on human trafficking will be present after the Saturday matinee. Suggested donation: $20. Proceeds support local anti-human trafficking work. Remember Those Who Have Died of AIDS
Join the Cathedral community in celebrating National Latino AIDS Awareness Day with a memorial mass. Kairos Prison Cookie Ministry
Trinity, Escondido hosts a Kairos Weekend on October 29 - November 1 at Donovan State Penitentiary. Episcopalians deliver home-baked cookies to inmates as a symbol of caring from the outside world. It's an ordinary task that becomes holy in the eyes of the prisoners. Read the full article
