Please Announce on Sundays
School for Ministry
During your Sunday announcements, please take a moment to let your congregation know that they can still register for classes at the diocesan School for Ministry (SFM). This semester's classes are: Hebrew Bible I (8 a.m. - 10 a.m.); Preaching (10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.); Liturgics (1:15 - 3:15 p.m.) and Vocation of the Deacon (3:30 -5:30 p.m.). Here is suggested wording for a verbal announcement: 
  • There's still time to register for classes at the diocesan School for Ministry. The offerings are affordable and graduate-level; this semester includes: Hebrew Bible I, Preaching, Liturgics and Vocation of the Deacon. Learn more on their website: sfmedsd.org. But don't delay! Class starts on September fifth.

Register Now for Fall Classes
Interested in the Hebrew Bible? Want to know more about the role of the deacon? Would you like to be a part of a diocesan community of learners? Register for classes at the School for Ministry in Ocean Beach. Orientation is on Saturday, August 29. Classes begin Saturday, September 5 through Saturday, December 5. Clergy Conference 2015

Register for Convention
Online registration for Diocesan Convention 2.0 (second one this year) is now available. Click here to register at the earlybird rate of $20 per person. The diocese is subsidizing the cost of this convention because it is the second one this year. Regular convention rates will resume for the 43rd Annual Diocesan Convention in November of 2016. 

Diocesan Day of Service
Episcopal churches throughout the diocese will hold a special service project on Sunday, October 11. Your church can join the fall quarterly services project of the Diocesan Service Coalition by signing up to join forces with Interfaith Community Services by August 31: www.bit.ly/2015ACT. Participate in projects like making meals, painting, landscaping, neighborhood cleanup, weeding, etc. By filling out this form, you are only indicating interest, not signing up for project. LatinoHispanic Leadership Project
Hispanic American Heritage Fiesta
You're invited to a special celebration of Hispanic American heritage on Saturday, September 12, 3 - 7 p.m. at St. Philip, 2660 Hardy Dr., Lemon Grove. This event is the culmination of the Latino/Hispanic Leadership Project sponsored by the Mission Enterprise Zone grants from The Episcopal Church. Come and enjoy delicious Latin American cuisine, traditional games (including la loteria electoral), inflatable playgrounds, Aztec dancers, and mariachi. Eucharistic Visitor Training
Saturday, September 26, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego, Fireside Room. The Rev. Brooks Mason will lead a training for those interested in the ministry of Eucharistic Visiting. This hands-on introduction to the ministry incorporates training materials, the theology and practice of bringing the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend services, and the history of the craft in our diocese. Diocesan Youth Retreat
Friday, October 9 - Sunday, October 11 at Camp Stevens, 1108 Banner Rd., Julian. Join other Episcopal youth groups for a weekend of service, faith and fun. Young Adult Coastal Cleanup
Monday, October 19, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Young adults throughout the diocese are cleaning up our coasts. With hundreds of locations, people all over the diocese can take part. Contact Young Adult Missioner Becky Gleason to RSVP or with questions. 

Retired Clergy Gathering
Wednesday, October 28, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. St. David's, 5050 Milton St., San Diego. Another grand gathering with Bishop Mathes, the Eucharist, a luncheon and sharing. Save the Date: Leadership Academy on February 20
All are welcome to attend this day of pragmatic workshops about how to run an Episcopal church. Saturday, February 20 at St. Bartholomew's, Poway, $15/person, lunch and materials included. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Leadership from all congregations that receive financial assistance from the diocese are required to attend. Any congregation that brings its entire vestry or bishop's committee will be our guests. Stay tuned for more information.

The Rev. John R. Edwards
The Rev. Jonathan Edwards died late Monday night. His funeral mass will be Friday, September 4 at 10 a.m. at All Saints', 625 Pennsylvania Ave., San Diego. At his request, the Rev. Victor H. Krulak will preside. 
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him. Amen.
