Diocesan News & Events
Dean James Carroll
A Note from Dean Carroll
"My gratitude to the good friends who came to Evensong on July 5 at the Cathedral to celebrate with me 60 years in the priesthood. Parishioners from All Souls', Point Loma; St. Davis's, Clairemont; and All Saints', Hillcrest were there, in addition to residents of St. Paul's Manor. And, of course, I greeted many to whom I ministered when I was Dean, and since then. The Dean, and fellow presbyters ("retired active"), Sexton, hospitality persons, and the remarkable music-makers were at the heart of the matter. What a blast!"

Back 2 School BashBack to School
Saturday, August 22
Every congregation is encouraged to participate in the annual Back 2 School Bash, which provides school supplies for children who would not otherwise be able to afford them. There are many ways to participate - sponsor a specific child, collect school supplies, volunteer, donate, and more. The most-needed items include: backpacks, boxes of 24 crayons, spiral notebooks (wide and college ruled), filler paper (wide and college ruled) and pencil cases, socks and underwear (in all shapes and sizes). We are asking that all donations be delivered to St. Mark's by Aug. 3rd (monetary donations sooner, if possible). Also, we would love for folks to make monetary donations to help offset the cost of buying in bulk and to assist with the cost of lunch, arts/craft supplies, games, etc. Checks can be made out to St. Mark's or contributions can be made online at http://stmarks-cityheights.org/giving-online/  Just be sure to add B2SB in the "special instructions." We will have a packing day in August (date & time TBA) and of course we could use volunteers on August 22. Find more information on the diocesan website or contact Heather Smith, 619-847-2856, to volunteer.
