27th Presiding Bishop Elected

Deputy Butch Glosson, member of Good Shepherd, Hemet
Hemet Parishioner Elected to Executive Council

We are very pleased to announce that Louis "Butch" Glosson, member of Good Shepherd, Hemet, has been elected to serve on the executive council of the Episcopal Church. The executive council is an elected body that represents the whole church. In the three years between general conventions, the council meets quarterly. Its duty is to carry out programs and policies adopted by the general convention. It is comprised of 20 members elected by general convention (four bishops, four priests or deacons, and 12 lay leaders) and 18 members elected by Episcopal provinces.

Congratulations, Butch!

Bishops march against gun violence
Gun Violence Must Stop
Prayerful march, powerful messages
[ENS and other] About 1,500 General Convention participants including nearly 80 bishops joined a "Claiming Common Ground Against Gun Violence" march in Salt Lake City the morning of June 28. It was sponsored by Bishops United Against Gun Violence.

The prayerful procession walked the half-mile from the Salt Palace Convention Center to Pioneer Park while marchers sang hymns and prayed. Members of Utah anti-gun violence groups and civil rights organizations joined in.

Jamie Wood, San Diego's Distinguished Woman
Representatives from diocesan chapters of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) are holding their triennial meeting simultaneously with General Convention. Each year, the diocesan ECW leaders choose one woman to honor for her work, faithfulness, and service. This year they chose Jamie Wood, of St. David's, San Diego. She is listed in a commemorative booklet, receives a certificate from top ECW leaders, and enjoys the Distinguished Woman Luncheon with the other ECW representatives and her bishop.
