A Theological Education in San Diego
(Session 1: 10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
What's the School for Ministry? Is it open to anyone? How much does it cost? Are there scholarships? Is it accredited? How many people attend? These, and many other burning questions, will be answered in this session with the dean of studies, the Rev. Dr. Mark Mann, and SFM students. A lively panel will discuss educational opportunities available at the school for those discerning a call to ministry, seeking further theological education, or simply wanting to learn more about their faith tradition.

Mark H. Mann, Ph.D. serves as dean of studies for the diocesan School for Ministry and is associate professor of Theology at Point Loma Nazarene University. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Nazarene College in 1990 and earned both an M.Div. and a Ph.D. in Religious and Theological Studies from Boston University in 2004. As an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, Dr. Mann has experience in ministry at the local church level.

Taking Your Church Into the Community: Evangelism for the Rest of Us!
(Session 2: 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.)
If you've been paying attention, then you know it's no longer enough to limit your evangelism to a multi-colored mug, ample parking and an "Episcopal Church Welcomes You" sign. Growing churches in the 21st century are learning to get outside their buildings and engage their communities in creative and fun ways. It's part of a larger shift from doing for your community, to doing with. In addition to raising your public profile, activities like Ashes-to-Go can have a profound impact on your congregation -- even transformative. Join Canon Chris Harris as we explore some cool ways to bring church to the unexpected corners of our communities and God into the unexpected areas of our lives.

Canon Christopher Harris, Esq. is the canon for congregational development at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, San Diego. Prior to joining the staff at St. Paul's, Chris operated his own law practice specializing in tax law, and served as chairman of the Alpha Project for the Homeless, a multi-service homeless outreach agency recognized nationally by the President of the United States as the country's 185th Point of Light. He currently serves on the board of directors of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS) and teaches on topics of congregational development at churches around the country. Chris' passion is helping people integrate their faith and a sense of call into all aspects of their lives -- workplace, finances and relationships -- while designing a life of purpose and mission.

Are You Ready to Transform Your Parish?
(Session 3: 1:45 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
This workshop is about growing your church, an invitation to boldly choose hope over fear; to encourage keeping what works and letting go of what does not. It will not be easy but it can save your parish and the countless souls of people God wants you to serve today and tomorrow. Easter is a time to take a new direction by learning from the characteristics of parishes in decline and parishes in growth. How does your congregation align with the core attributes of a growing, versus declining, parish? Are you ready to learn how to transform the naysayers to take action to transform your parish? The Rev. Mark McKone-Sweet will offer a safe space to prayerfully imagine that the harvest is plentiful, and to grow parish communities that will bring the good news to more people.

The Rev. Mark McKone-Sweet came to the Diocese of San Diego in October 2014. He hails from the Diocese of Massachusetts. Everywhere secularization is on the increase. Despite this, each parish he's served has grown, as did his diocese. Was it him? Absolutely not. Was it the power of people like you, to change the narrative hand-in-hand? Yes.
