Father,
Help us to see this holy season of Lent
as a time of spiritual renewal
rather than a time of deprivation.
Motivate us to reach a new level
of experiencing your love.
Amen.

Going Deeper: Bishop's Lenten Message
"As I learn with horror that Coptic Christians are being beheaded in Libya and scores of Syrian Christians are being held hostage by ISIS, I am brought to my knees in prayer and convicted of practicing a non-demanding Christian following. I wonder how I would measure up. I honestly think I am pretty soft. I suspect that I am preoccupied with proverbial first world problems and preserving a privileged church." Visit the diocesan blog to read the Bishop's Lenten Message in its entirety.

PSSST: Today, Thursday, March 5 is the tenth anniversary of Bishop Mathes' consecration as the fourth bishop of our diocese. Say congratulations!

Father Tim's Church Survival Guide
"My take on church life isn't for everyone-clergy who take themselves too seriously will hate it. But know that it all comes out of a place of deep love for God and the Church. There are inevitably things that drive us nuts about such an imperfect (i.e., human) institution. Yet if we can't observe and comment on our own foibles, we're left without much hope. And anyway if God doesn't have a sense of humor, I'm hosed."
