Gala Dinner
Please note: The Friday evening gala dinner is SOLD OUT! The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner begins at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Bonita Golf Course, 5540 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita, 91902 (Map).

Diocesan-wide Choir
All singers are welcome to participate in the diocesan-wide choir on Saturday. Contact Canon Martin Green to RSVP and for rehearsal information.

Keynote Speaker
The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, bishop of Northwestern Pennsylvania and Bethlehem, and member of Task Force for Re-Imagining the Episcopal Church (TREC), will give the keynote address on Friday evening. He will also lead a plenary on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. John's, Chula Vista.

Diaper Drive
All attendees are requested to bring diapers for the diocesan-wide diaper drive. Donations will help struggling families at Episcopal Community Services and the Episcopal Refugee Network. 

Ordinations
Three nominees will be ordained to the vocational diaconate during the Eucharist on Saturday at St. John's. All are welcome!

Vestry Training

Over 40 vestry members attended the diocesan vestry training on January 31. If you missed it, you may still benefit from the PowerPoint presentations, which reside on the diocesan website. Look for the presentations from Canon Young and Bishop Mathes.

 

Leading Change

The Rev. Frank Munoz, MA, MDiv, will lead a series of three classes about embracing the future and leading change in the 21st century. All classes will take place on Wednesdays, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the diocesan School for Ministry, 2083 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego. Lenten Quiet Day

All women of the diocese are cordially invited to attend a Lenten quiet day on Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at St. David's, 5050 Milton St., San Diego. Our retreat leader, Sister Marie Louise Flick, will give two meditations with time for reflection on staying connected to God in the midst of our secular culture. Eucharist at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Water to Wine Annual Gala
Episcopal Community Services' annual spring gala, Water to Wine, will take place on Saturday, April 25 at the McMillin Center in Liberty Station. "A Salute to Service," this event will honor our region's long military tradition as well as ECS' 90-year history. Enjoy cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions and live musical entertainment. Expect a few surprises as well! $150 per person. Business sponsorships and/or auction donations are much appreciated and contribute greatly to the event's success. episcopal night padres Episcopal Night at the Padres

After much demand, Episcopal Night at the Padres is back! Save the date: Friday, July 17, 7:10 p.m. Petco Park. The Padres will take on the Colorado Rockies. A portion of all proceeds will support diocesan ministries, and we encourage everyone who attends to bring a pair of clean, white athletic socks for distribution to homeless people. A mystery Episcopalian will throw the first pitch. Summer Mission Trip with Amor Ministries
Youth and adult chaperons of the diocese are invited to the home-building trip with Amor Ministries to Baja Mexico June 16-20. We will build three homes, floor to ceiling, and travel less than a two-hour drive from San Diego. Total cost, including supplies, food, and travel insurance, is $400 per participant. Convention, Canyons & Community

Youth ages 13-18 are invited to attend a summer adventure in faith that will include volunteering at the Episcopal Church's General Convention in Salt Lake City, a local day of service, and a visit to Zion National Park, June 23-27. Total cost including transportation, food, accommodations, and travel insurance is $400 per participant. Monthly planning meetings begin in February -- please reserve your spot by February 8. New Play: "Pulling Back the Earth"

Thursday - Friday, March 5 and 6, 7 p.m, Saturday matinée, 4 p.m. (discussion & supper 6 p.m.), in the Great Hall of St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego. A significant theater event will happen with the first unveiling of the play "Pulling Back the Earth." Twenty years in the making, Mark Turner's play will be presented as "theater of the mind" featuring dramatic readers, folk choir with ethnic percussion and original visual art. Produced by St. Paul's Cathedral Center for Performing and Visual Arts in collaboration with Horizon Gate Productions, the drama tells of a young couple banished to "the outer space" for believing other humans exist besides their tribe. Performances will be followed by guided discussion with the playwright and cast. The Saturday matinée will be followed by a supper and guided discussion to which all ticket holders are invited ($5 donation). MLK Community Choir at St. David's

In celebration of Black History Month, St. David's, San Diego proudly presents the Martin Luther King Community Choir under the direction of Ken Anderson in a program of African-American spirituals and gospels that have made this choir the best of its kind in San Diego. The choir sings original and cover songs ranging from gospel to contemporary worship, accompanied by piano and percussion, with 60 to 80 voices. A freewill offering will be received. Childcare will be available if reserved by Thursday, February 5. The concert will take place on Sunday, February 8 at 4 p.m.

Hate Crimes and Inclusion Film Screening

Attend a free screening with special guest speaker, Rana Sodhi, regarding hate crimes and inclusion. The film, Waking in Oak Creek, concerns one of the deadliest hate crime attacks in recent U.S. history. It highlights how law enforcement and the community responded to the tragic murders of several Sikh worshippers. Preaching Conference

The Episcopal Preaching Foundation invites all to attend a preaching conference, March 5-7 at the Cathedral Center in Los Angeles. The conference is for all who are interested in preaching more effectively - in Spanish and English - native speakers and those just learning, seminarians, clergy and laity.
