We are very busy at the Office of the Bishop preparing for convention and preparing for our audit. One of the big tasks is to make sure that all 2014 expense reimbursement requests have been submitted so that expenses can be booked in the year they were incurred. Are you also working on this?

It was great to see so many of you at Vestry Training last Saturday at St. Thomas of Canterbury, Temecula. Thank you, St. Thomas, for hosting us. The finance and admin powerpoint from the event has been posted to our website.

We are looking forward to seeing most of you at convention. This year, convention workshops will be more limited than prior years but more workshops will be offered May 2 at Leadership Academy

Respectfully,
Canon Julie Young

PreSchool and Thrift Shop Affinity Groups to Meet at Convention

During lunch on Friday (which is included in the registration fee), affinity groups will meet around the subjects of preschools, schools and thrift stores. If you have a school and/or thrift shop, please have someone from your church attend and discuss shared excitement as well as challenges.

Parochial Reports
You should receive your parochial report form from the Episcopal Church soon if you have not already. We will offer webinar training on how to pull together the parochial report information and how to do the requested reconciliation. If you are interested, email Rosa Feeney. Like last year, we require that your year-end 2014 financials, reconciliation of financials to the parochial report, and 2015 budget be submitted.

Leadership
Leadership Academy: May 2
On Saturday, May 2 at St. Bartholomew's, Poway, the diocese will offer a leadership training for congregational leaders. The different tracks will cover most all of the basics for church leaders to be effective in their work. In the finance and admin track, there will be morning workshops offering the basics of church finance/admin and human resource management. In the afternoon, workshops on more specific topics will be offered. Let me know what you would like to see covered by emailing me: jyoung@edsd.org. In the meantime, the Episcopal Church Foundation is offering free vestry and stewardship webinars on the following dates:

Vestry Orientation, Tuesday, February 10, 4 p.m. PST
Year-Round Stewardship, Wednesday,  February 11, 4:30 p.m. PST

1099s DUE
1099s must be provided to all independent contractors that are not incorporated that you paid (both for time and expenses) more than $600 last year. For more information, contact Rosa Feeney.

Audit Guidelines
You will receive your 2014 audit binder in the mail very soon! I encourage you to open it now and review the guidelines and deadlines. The first deadline is April 15 - notification of the audit committee and type of audit to be conducted. Audit training will take place at the Leadership Academy on Saturday, May 2.
