Dean Carroll
Matching Grant Meets Its Goal!

We are pleased to announce that you - the generous people of the diocese - have achieved an important goal: you have raised $50,000 for the Carroll Center second-floor office suite at the Episcopal Church Center, and secured the $50,000 match from an anonymous donor. Thank you for this lasting tribute to the grandfather of the diocese, a kind, generous and faithful man. Donations are still welcome. Please make your check payable to "EDSD" and write "Campaign" in the memo line. Read more and participate online.

We will be closed Dec. 31 - Jan. 1 for New Year's and reopen on Jan. 2. Thank you and warm wishes for a holy Advent and Christmas season.

Christmas Message  schori pb

"The altar hanging at an English Advent service was made of midnight blue, with these words across its top: "We thank you that darkness reminds us of light." Facing all who gathered there to give thanks were images of night creatures - a large moth, an owl, a badger, and a bat - cryptic and somewhat mysterious creatures that can only be encountered in the darkness." Read the presiding bishop's full Christmas Message.

Longest Night Service
On the longest night of the year, Sunday, December 21, not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays: dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other dis-ease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people in our congregations and communities. There is an interesting convergence for this day as it is also the traditional feast day for Saint Thomas the Apostle. This linkage invites making some connections between Thomas'struggle to believe the tale of Jesus' resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those living with loss. Join us for this Longest Night Service on Sunday, December 21 at 4 p.m. at Christ Church, 1114 Ninth St., Coronado.
