Julie Young

I recently returned from the Church Pension Group's annual conference in New York for diocesan administrators. It is a wonderful conference chock-full of information and opportunities for networking. Here are some of the key takeaways from the conference:
  • The root of the word administration is "Ministry." Sometimes we forget that we are doing critical ministry as administrators
  • Sitting is the new smoking.
  • Human resource management is highly important but baby steps are more important than no steps.
In the office of the bishop, we are always available for consultation on finance, human resources, and accounting. Feel free to email Rosa Feeney or me. I especially encourage you to contact me in the hiring and termination process.

Thank you for all your hard work. Our diocese is blessed to have all of you providing adMinistration of your individual congregations.

Respectfully,
Canon Julie Young
Canon for Finance and Administration and Diocesan Treasurer

Open Enrollment
The diocese will offer the same plans as last year. View Rates Here. Open enrollment is from October 31 to November 21. Open enrollment materials will be sent out the week prior by the Medical Trust. If you have employees that have not had insurance with the Medical Trust previously, please alert Julie Young. She has to enroll them.

Mission Share Pledges Due Nov. 15
Bishop Mathes mailed each church a letter with a mission share pledge form on October 4. Pledges are due November 15. The diocese continues to provide resources in time and money to churches and to ministries in the diocese. We can't do it without you! Please take a look at the letter and the form and send your completed lavender form back by November 15.

Electronic Giving
I know that all of you are hard at work on your stewardship campaigns. I recommend that you consider rolling out electronic giving this year if you haven't already. Churches that offer electronic giving typically receive a higher portion of the pledges and they have a more stable cash flow. Click here for an article on electronic giving. For suggestions on companies to handle the technical side of electronic giving, click here.
