The Office of the Bishop is pleased to welcome Ms. Becky Gleason to the team. As the diocesan program intern, Ms. Gleason will identify and foster opportunities for young adults interested in ministry and mission to work in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. She will also serve as a staff member for special projects and events relating to the development and support of Hispanic ministries and young adult ministries, among other duties. Hispanic Evangelism Workshop
Latinos make up a large and growing segment of our population, but Latino ministries often struggle within the Episcopal Church. Why? What cultural assumptions and differences stand in the way of our efforts to proclaim the good news to this vibrant demographic? Join us to learn more about evangelism among Latinos at a workshop led by Juan Martinez, professor of Hispanic studies and pastoral leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary. Reading his book, Walk with the People, is a pre-requisite for attendance. A Land Twice Promised
St. Paul's Cathedral invites you to a storytelling event on Monday, October 6, 7 p.m. Noted storyteller Noa Baum offers a dramatic presentation of the human story behind the rhetoric surrounding the Holy Land, a moving testimony illuminating the complex and contradictory history and emotions surrounding Jerusalem for Israelis and Palestinians alike. This special presentation will engage our hearts and minds as we reflect on one of the great ongoing tragedies in our world, particularly in view of the recent war. $10 suggested donation. Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
USD professor and religious studies teacher at the Bishop's School, Dr. David Moseley will lead a trip to Galilee, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea, Amman and Petra in June, 2015. Dr. Moseley will lead the tour accompanied by a chaplain, and will also teach a series of classes in the spring about the history, geography and culture of the areas. Estimated cost for the two-week itinerary (including flights, 4-star accommodations and local transport), plus pre-departure classes, is approximately $4,000 per person. Those Who Sing Pray Twice
How Music Brings Us Closer to God
The Very Rev. Penelope Bridges, dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, reflects on St. Augustine's word, "those who sing, pray twice," as they apply to her life and to the universal experience of music as a means of worship, recreation, spiritual refreshment and mental exercise.
