Women Clergy Commemorate 40 Years

Last month, the Episcopal Church celebrated 40 years of women's ordination. Women clergy in this diocese gathered at St. Timothy's for a celebratory lunch, reflection, and fellowship. Read the blog post.

SCHOOL FOR MINISTRY
School for Ministry
School for Ministry Open House

All are welcome to attend an informal open house at the School for Ministry, located in the Episcopal Church Center at 2083 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., San Diego, CA 92107. On Friday, August 22, drop-in anytime between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to see the School, talk with the interim dean and the director of continuing education and get a feel for this new initiative.

 

Registration Ends August 29

Those seeking holy orders and auditors are welcome to register for the fall semester at the diocesan School for Ministry until Friday, August 29. Register Online.

Clergy Transitions
  • The Rev. Mark McKone-Sweet has accepted a call to serve as the rector of St. Bartholomew's, Poway. He most recently served at St. Dunstan's, Dover, Massachusetts and will begin here on October 4.
  • The Rev. Wayne Sanders is the interim at St. Andrew's, La Mesa.
  • The Rev. Hugh Tudor-Foley is the supply at St. Stephen's, Menifee with additional responsibilities for St. Andrew's, Lake Elsinore, assisted by the Rev. Juan Acosta.
Celebration of New Ministry

bread wine 2 Eucharistic Visitor Training

Saturday, August 9, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Bring the bread and wine made holy to those who are homebound. Attend this one-day training to learn about the history of the role, customs and canons, substituting for the clergy and much more. Lunch, refreshments and materials are included in the $15 fee. Quiet Day with Father Benedict Reid

Father Benedict Reid will lead us through a spiritual adventure on Saturday, August 23, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego. He will offer teachings, and provide time for reflection and solitude. Noon service and lunch included. Back 2 School Bash
Back to School

The Diocesan Service Coalition will host the Back 2 School Bash, a backpack drive for homeless or low-income children throughout our diocese. School supplies, clothes, shoes and more are welcome! Quarterly Service Summit will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral on Saturday, October 11, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

Visit Dorcas House

The children of Dorcas House in Tijuana invite you to visit them on Saturday, August 23 at 9 a.m. Dorcas House is a foster home; about 60% of the children have parents who are incarcerated. All ages are welcome on the trip. Spanish is not required, but a valid passport is mandatory. Changes to note: start time of 9 a.m. and we will drive into Tijuana rather than walk. Pre-registration required. Van Wanted: Do you have a 12- or 15-passenger van that you are willing to loan to the ministry of Dorcas House? On the fourth Saturday of the month, we transport visitors to Tijuana to visit the children. If you're willing to help, please contact Beth Beall.

 

 

Four Choirs Join Forces
evensong at st peters

A special Choral Evensong at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave., San Diego, will take place on Sunday, August 24 at 5 p.m. The choir from Trinity, Escondido will join forces with St. Mary's, Ramona; St. Thomas, Temecula and singers from All Saints, Vista for a festival service at our cathedral. The combined choir will number about thirty singers and will sing new service music by David Lewis and an anthem by Stephen Sturk. The Magnificat and Nunc Dimitis is the famous setting by Charles Stanford. Please join us for this wonderful musical and worshipful service.

Matching Grant Doubles Your Gift

An anonymous donor has given a $50,000 matching grant to the Carroll Center, which is the second floor of the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach. Bishop Mathes said that "naming the office suite after the Very Rev. James E. Carroll is a tribute to this kind, generous and faithful man." Your gift does double-duty in the Carroll Center. Apocalypse and Revelation
