We are finally feeling settled here at the Episcopal Church Center and love the energy that comes from being present in the middle of a vital ministry center. Also, we are finally feeling like we can breathe again after a busy start of the year with convention, leadership academy, the move, and our audit. 
 
We can now turn our attention more fully to being a resource to all of you. If you have questions or concerns, now is the time to contact us! If you want us to do a human resources assessment for you, we are happy to help!

I particularly encourage you to contact me if you are hiring new employees - clergy or lay. Since this is something you don't do everyday, I know it is not always easy to know the various requirements and best practices. We can help you navigate the process.

Have a wonderful summer and come visit us in our new offices! Better yet, consider volunteering a half a day a week as a day chair, providing hospitality to the various visitors of the center.

Minimum Wage Change
The minimum wage for hourly employees increased from $8 to $9 per hour on July 1, 2014. The minimum annual salary (regardless of the number of hours worked) for exempt employees increased to $37,440 at the same time. All non-exempt employees should be paid on an hourly, and not salaried, basis. 

Stewardship Planning
Before you know it, fall will be here and stewardship campaigns will begin in earnest. Now is the time to prepare. There are great resources available:
  • The Episcopal Church Foundation offers a number of vital papers on a range of topics including finance, building and grounds, and stewardship. The stewardship papers are available here: Vestry Papers.
  • Our diocese is a member of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS), which has extensive stewardship resources including suggestions for annual pledge campaigns, capital campaigns, liturgical and worship materials, and other aids to year-round messaging. Audit Notifications Due
In February, all congregations were sent an instructional notebook for 2013 audits. On page eight, there is a form (that was due April 15) that informs the Diocese of the names of your audit committee and the type of audit you plan to conduct for 2013. Page four of the notebook provides guidelines regarding the type of audit that is required of congregations based primarily on the amount of revenue. Please save us a phone call and send the form in now. If you have any questions, please email Rosa Feeney. Thanks to all who have sent in your form and greater thanks to those who completed the audit and sent back the notebook. We look forward to receiving the rest of them in the next two months.
