We did not publish a Finance and Admin News last month -- between our move to the Episcopal Church Center and the diocesan audit, there was simply no time. Thankfully, we are now settled in our new space and our audit is nearing completion. I invite you to come and see us!

Welcome to those of you who are getting this e-news for the first time; we have added the names given to me at Leadership Academy. It was great to see so many of you there. Video of workshops and some PowerPoints are available here: www.edsd.org/leadershipacademy2014.

Safeguarding God's People Online
The Safeguarding God's People sexual misconduct prevention training is now available online for free. Please see the diocesan website: www.edsd.org/safeguarding for more information or contact Keren Rodriguez, 619-481-5455.

Minimum Wage Change
The minimum wage for hourly employees is increasing from $8 to $9 per hour on July 1, 2014. The minimum annual salary (regardless of the number of hours worked) for exempt employees is increasing to $37,440 at the same time. All non-exempt employees should be paid on an hourly, and not salaried, basis. 

Compiling a Resource Directory
Our property committee is putting together a list of vendors that congregations have used successfully to maintain and improve their property. If you have a handyman, roofer, HVAC company, etc. you have used and would recommend, please send the contact information to Julie Young.

Seeking Volunteers
Business Consultants and ECC Hospitality Team
The Diocese thrives when volunteers share their talents and expertise. If you have legal, business, human resources, financial or investment knowledge, we would like to speak with you about possible volunteer work. If you can provide a welcoming presence at the Episcopal Church Center, positions are open. An informal interview is required for all positions. New Facility Manager Named
Accounting Assistant Position Open
Charles Robinson Charles Robinson has been offered, and has accepted, the position of facility manager of the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach. This newly created position begins July 1, 2014. At that time Canon Nancy Holland will be able to devote her time more completely to her work as canon for mission enterprise. If you see Charles, be sure to congratulate him on his promotion. And if you see Nancy, thank her for the hard work and long hours she has put in over the last three years transforming the Episcopal Church Center into a vibrant worship, ministry and educational center, as well as the new home of the office of the bishop.

This transition leaves an opening for Charles's former position - accounting and administrative assistant. If you know someone who has accounting, analytical, and administrative skills; please ask her/him to contact Julie Young, 619-481-5453.

The Episcopal Network for Stewardship
Our Diocese is a member of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS). This allows all congregations to access the member resources on www.tens.org. The username and password have changed; our username is: "giving" and the password is "glory". TENS resources include materials for teaching discipleship, generosity and environmental stewardship, suggestions for annual pledge campaigns, capital campaign guidance, liturgical and worship materials, and other aids to year-round messaging.

Audit Notifications Due
In February, all congregations were sent an instructional notebook for 2013 audits. On page eight, there is a form (that was due April 15) that informs the Diocese of the names of your audit committee and the type of audit you plan to conduct for 2012. Page four of the notebook provides guidelines regarding the type of audit that is required of congregations based primarily on size of revenue. Please save us a phone call and send the form in now. Mandatory Federal & California Employment Notices
All workplaces are required to post California and federal employment law postings. Since laws change frequently, it is necessary to change postings each year. The California Chamber of Commerce publishes an all-in-one poster that is a convenient way to assure compliance with the law. These are available here. The diocese is a member of the California Chamber of Commerce so preferred rates are available if you order in our name. Plus, we have an extra poster that we will give you for free if you are the first one to call: 619-481-5453.
