In the Office of the Bishop, it is All Things Convention these days. Well that and Leadership Academy and Episcopal Church Center construction and an upcoming move. We are certainly busy! Looking forward to seeing all of you either at Convention or at Leadership Academy.

Parochial Reports

Parochial reports are due Saturday, March 1. This year, please provide your 2013 financial statement (reconciling the financials with the parochial report) and 2014 budget with your parochial report. Reconciliation forms can be found on our website: edsd.org/parochialreports

Leadership Academy

On March 15 at St. Bartholomew's, Poway we will offer a lay and clergy leadership training day. There will be five tracks that will cover most everything church leaders need to know to be effective. In the finance and administration track, morning workshops will cover the basics of church finance /admin and human resource management. Afternoon workshops will focus on more specific topics and will include insurance, buildings and grounds, clergy and lay benefits, and church audits/parochial reports. Fee is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Contact me for financial assistance - I want to see all of you, your treasurers, vestries, and parish administrators there!

Minimum Wage

Please be aware that the minimum wage is going up on July 1, 2014 to $9 per hour. The minimum wage for exempt employees will be $37,440 regardless of how many hours are worked. Employees must be paid on an hourly basis unless they make a minimum of this amount and they meet the other guidelines for other exempt employees.

IRS Mileage Rate

The IRS mileage rate is $0.56 per mile. This is the recommended rate for reimbursement of business travel.

Audit Guidelines

By now you should have received your 2013 audit binder in the mail. I encourage you to open it now and review the guidelines and deadlines. Audit training will take place at the Leadership Academy on Saturday, March 15.
