Dear Clergy Colleagues:

The attached flyer grew out of my conversations with the bishops in South Sudan and the worldwide concerned collaborative of lay and ordained persons that meets every Friday morning for a conference conversation about suffering attendant to civil war in South Sudan.

Many of my parishioners are directly affected by the violence. Their close relatives are killed, wounded and displaced every day. The Sudan bishops tell us the best thing we can do is pray fervently at this moment since the country's infrastructure is mainly destroyed and it is hard to get material assistance to the point of need.

Our presiding bishop has called for a National Day of Prayer on Sunday, February 16. We invite you to use the Propers from Holy Women, Holy Men for the martyrs of Sudan on that day. In addition, please read and act upon the information in the flyer linked below and contact the Episcopal Refugee Network to see how you can gather support for our Sudanese brothers and sisters in this Diocese.

Thanks in advance for your help on short notice.

In Christ's love,
Susan Astarita+
