All Things Convention

Beloved,
It is a joy to have just concluded our annual Clergy Conference. The blessings were abundant: Jay's wisdom, our times of fellowship and conversation, beautiful sunrises with hot air balloons crossing the sky, and moments of quiet reflection. There are few times during the year that I look forward to more. Once again, my anticipation was not in vain; for that I thank you.
Our 40th Annual Diocesan Convention will be held on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22. Friday we will gather at the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach for a blessing and dedication by the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori. Convention business and workshops begin on Friday afternoon at the DoubleTree in Mission Valley.
A special feature of convention this year is the capital campaign kick-off dinner, which will take place at the DoubleTree on Friday, February 21. Hosted by the capital campaign, this dinner is open to everyone in the diocese at no cost. All who wish to attend must register online, provide their names and dinner choices, print tickets at home and bring them to the event. Register here: www.edsd.org/diocon2014.
Saturday begins with a festive Eucharist at St. Paul's Cathedral, followed by workshops at the DoubleTree and the conclusion of business by 4 p.m. All nominations or resolutions must be submitted by Monday, December 2, so talk to your church's delegates about submitting one if you have an idea.
As this is our 40th anniversary, we hope that all congregations will participate in this convention. Please consider creating a prayer flag, or two, or twenty, which we will fly at the Center in Ocean Beach during the blessing and dedication. Prayer flags give visual voice to our prayers, hopes and dreams and it is my hope that these flags will represent your congregation's prayers for our diocese over the next 40 years.
I look forward to this annual gathering and I encourage you to register today. The price is $65 until Friday, November 1. The next price bump is Thursday, October 31 at $75. Finally, latecomers who register on or after Wednesday, January 1 will pay $95. So register today!
Thank you for your attention to these things even as you focus on your own congregation, stewardship and all the many activities of fall.
Blessings on you and your ministry,
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes
Bishop
