Beloved,
I hope that you have had some time for recreation and renewal over the summer. It is important to slow down just a bit and refresh one's soul. As the slower summer season moves to the faster-paced fall, I find myself feeling incredibly grateful for our life together as a diocesan community. We are blessed to have an extraordinary clergy cohort in our diocese. Our diversity and unity of purpose is an outward and visible sign of what God calls us to be as the church.
At the end of the month, September 30-October 2, we have an opportunity to come together in our annual clergy conference as a community. Together, we will have chance to grow in our ministry by hearing from the Rev. Jay Sidebothem , former rector of Holy Spirit, Lake Forest and director of RenewalWorks, a ministry of Forward Movement. Jay will share with us helpful models of evaluating spiritual depth and growth within congregations.
While I am convinced we will find our time with Jay a great gift, I also believe that a substantial benefit comes from simply being together. Please make attendance at this year's clergy conference a priority. It is your contribution to your own well-being and that of our clergy community.
Please register as soon as possible: Clergy Conference. Don't let finances deter you. If you need help attending, please email me. I look forward to seeing you.
Blessings to you in your ministry. Faithfully, The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes Bishop |

The Rev. Jay Sidebotham will be our presenter at this year's Clergy Conference. Formerly the rector of Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, Illinois, Father Sidebotham is now the director of RenewalWorks, a ministry of Forward Movement. He will discuss ways to assess and develop our congregational spiritual vitality. Interactive sessions will invite clergy members into conversation so we may learn from one another.
